New "Battleframe Garage" that lets you customize your loadout is awful, major triumph of form over function. Want to change your gun? Don't click on the gun, click on the arms. Clicking on the gun opens up another module. Also the contrast between items to choose from and the background is bad, makes it difficult to select what I want.
Upside, no more XP wipes, although there may be periodic refunds as they monkey with the tree.
Is this still in beta and is it terrible?
Year or two ago istr this looking like it was setting up to be some sort of MMO borderlands basically... C/D?
I tried to be cool and all I got was a lousy warning about my sig being too big.
It is beta, and there are still lots of things that need to be worked out (see earlier comment), but the team has made genuine progress in plenty of areas and has no compunction about upsetting the established order to make things better. I periodically jump in to check things out, although I'm not anticipating it to the same degree as Planetside 2 or MechWarrior Online.
It's more like WoW with PvP arenas you can join. Calling it similar to Borderlands doesn't do Borderlands any favors. I watched some of the arena videos thinking it would be like QuakeLive or Tribes: Ascend with a new twist and loadouts. Then, you discover that it's another epic grind fest. I tried it out but got bored very quickly. How fucking terrible would WoT be if there was PvE content as well?

The beta is currently really basic though as regards PVE, what's there when I last looked is the most basic implementation of the first draft of the planned pve content. It has resource gathering and 1 introductory quest and that's it. No chosen invasions & town defence, no way to push back the melding - both of which are supposed to be world-changing pve events requiring mass participation.

I got the impression that it was trying to be too many games at once. I was lured in by the team PvP, and then turned off by the realization that I would have to farm up to do any meaningful PvP. I suppose Guild Wars managed to balance all that and be successful but that wasn't a free to play game.

But it's taking them so long to do everything that... well, I don't have much confidence in the end result, tbh.

Beta key giveaway at alienware if anyone still needs some:

Combat is fun much much better than global agenda (very smooth and the action is intuitive) this is a proper FPS but with a lot of people, right now they are getting the game play right, the last few months has been all on ripping out progression and crafting systems and building new much much better ones that now that need some polishing. All in if they get some goals to aim for other than level grind and pvp arenas it will be an excellent game, right now pve combat is a lot of fun for a while but I personally cant use lvl grind as a goal so it gets a little stale.
I have 5 more beta invites available if anyone is interested
