Careful, with the new Internet laws Putin just passed such talk could land comrade razor in whatever passes for "hot water" in Russia.

    Food for thought.
F-22 flew in it's final fuselage 20 or so years back fyi.
    Unlike T-50.
And noone has yet surpassed Su-27's (T-50's father) aerodynamic quality.

Raptor may have better stealth but noone can dance in the air like russo-soviet rustbuckets.

Back when I spent a lot of time driving to my nations racing tracks and my buddy had just gotten his helo license, I spotted a "cheap" Mi-8 for sale and calculated some rough figures. Turns out to fly out to my favorite track from the closest airfield to my home, and back, would've cost me roughly 5k eur.

Not that I could even afford buying it mind, but it was a nice daydream

My favorite is a G550 from Woodford, Cheshire, UK, to Naples, Florida, US in one shot.

Sadly the jets like, $30-$40million US, let alone ~10% a year running costs.

However, fucking eh that'd be kickass right?

    Whoops
      Spoiler:

Course they've come out with the 650 too.

    http://www.gulfstream.com/products/g650/

Which would be the go-to choice now.

    Long Range Cruise Mach 0.85
    Mmo Mach 0.925
    Normal Cruise Mach 0.90
Range at LRC 7,000 nm / 12,964 km
Range at Normal Cruise 5,000 nm / 9,260 km
Takeoff Distance (MTOW, SL, ISA) 6,000 ft / 1,829 m

Normal cruise is 90% the speed of sound, and you can go 7000 miles (with fuel reserve) in one hit... in your own jet. Yes please.

Also, sat in one of these (on the ground )

    Piaggio Avanti

Apart from being badass, they're pretty fast too. The only downside is for the line techs that get them moving, the pilot has to start the starboard engine first, (normally port) because the ground power units connection is behind the port prop... and the only real way for the lead to reach is from the rear... so the line tech has to duck underneath the prop and disconnect it once the right hand prop is started.

    Yeah.

      Spoiler:

Fuck it - More GA plane stuff.

Heres a video from a student at the school I'm going to, and the exact area I'll be flying in -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRIhw..._order&list=UL

And heres what I'll be flying - Cessna 180 Floatplane. Similar to this, perhaps not as shiny. Not sure yet!

And heres what I've spent my time flying before now -

Hehe, looks nice, but a bit too bling for me, the G550. Thing ain't got no rust!
Bit jello of the flying you get to do, props on that

I want (wanted) "my" Mi-8 to go at most 500km one way and carry our racing gear, a bit over 1kkg including two bikes, and of course has to have cargo opening allowing stuff to be easily unloaded. No landing strip available for that either so helo is a must. Or Osprey but they're like 10x more expensive.

The earlier pictures of Mi-8 had no rust, here's some with a bit more rust:

This one I'm not sure what it is. One of the Sikorsky 50's Helicopters H-19 or H-34? Looks close but not quite. Mi-4? Closer but still different.

That's what I thought at first, but then I apparently had a derp thinking those were windows in the front and since there's supposed to be an engine there it can't be. But indeed it does have the engine there, and those were probably holes for maintenance panels that have fallen off, or something.

There was a television show I saw when I was a kid, probably from the 70's, that featured an H-19 rather often. I have no real recollection of what show it was, but I instantly took a liking to the funny looking bird.

EDIT: Apparently there's a db for this sort of thing:
    http://www.impdb.org/index.php?title...:Sikorsky_H-19

But dunno which of these sparked my imagination.

Maybe it was this one, fighting a giant crab
