So I'm watching this Operation Red Flag movie thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxqTM...C47BB6FA7FE553 (playlist is backwards at the bottom)

Interesting so far and it kind of begs to differ regarding only firing missiles from super far away. They go at it with machine guns as well... I imagine they'll add the f22's in there eventually?

Anyway movie is cool. It's funny that the colors/film quality/propaganda-ish look makes it remind me of starship troopers.

If I ever become Croatian Minister of Defence, I'll work out a procurement of Rafale C's JUST BECAUSE THEY LOOK SEXY AS FUCK

Just saying, but no US fighter has not been equipped with a gun since the F-4. And even that quickly got an external gun pod to fix the problem.
And the AF moved it to the nose in later variants

    hi

P-40 is my favourite WWII aircraft in the looks department. It just looks like a low level brawler (which funnily enough it was).

    Grumman F7F Tigercat:

possibly the pinnacle of prop driven combat aircraft. Equipped with 4 nose mounted 50 calibre machine guns and 4 30mm cannons in the wing roots. Also could be fitted with drop tanks, 500 pound bombs or torpedoes under the fuselage. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney double-wasp engines. They were coming into service at the end of WWII but didn't see combat until the Korean war where they were basically the 1950's equivalent of an A-10. Also they were rated for carrier duty.

One of my favorite prop fighters....it had a lot of compromises built in to maximize speed and manueverability (like wings that are built to explode if it exceeded 7.5 g, still designed to fly and and land without them though) and was underarmed, but makes for one hell of an interceptor or race plane. Still holds the the climb rate record for a prop craft, take off to 10,000 feet in 94 seconds.

Best piston prop fighter. One shot down a MiG-15 over Korea.

Plus it had this two seater version for comedy value.
