Flares or uncontained engine failure? With Russian planes, you never know.

I'm sure it all makes sense when you know why, but i can't help feeling that the cockpit on those Tucanos is bigger than it needs to be. Are there a lot of 2.5m tall dudes in the Brazilian air force?

That slightly bigger cockpit is a huge quality-of-life upgrade. Nothing like being shoved into an ejection seat then also have cramped extremities.

That one looks like it has much better forward vision than the one I usually see

Edit: Oh I see, it's a regular Tucano. It's lacking in superness.

    Love ejector seats with horns.
Engineer: "I know, instead of working out how to get rid of the canopy with explosives, lets put glass breakers on top of the seats and fire them through the canopy"

This is one of the big reasons I went into IT instead of aviation - to tall fit into the ejector seats for fast jets, so why bother.

Pssst. It's not a Tucano. In Slovenistan, they have Pilatus PC-9s. But the reason for big cockpits with a bulge around the side is because people can gain weight from all the in-flight booze and snacks.

Yep! It's Pilatus PC-9M used by our air force. Besides making great propeller sound and doing cool pew pew strafing runs on ground targets it doesnt really do anything else but steal my money for maintenance
Oh and a couple years ago some dude ejected from it. Pilot took him joyriding and when he rolled the plane the passenger pulled the ejection lever

BTW bomby thanks for 1400th rep

edit: omg there's an rc one for sale literally right now

Fair enough but all the extra space looks like it's behind the seat.

tl;dr: Four out of five fishbeds that were bought from Ukraine in 2013 and delivered in 2016, a year over the deadline, are not only barely fit to fly but also actually cobbled together from allegedly destroyed bulgarian fuselages (that are 5 years older than what ukraine was supposed to provide) and algerian wings while 2 out of 5 engines can't be traced at all.

The results for the Russian An-148 crash investigation are in:

    http://avherald.com/h?article=4b4cb236

    TL;DR

Step 1. Put plane in autopilot, do not turn on pitot heating in the middle of Russian winter.
Step 2. Pitot tube promptly freezes over, indicated airspeed starts to decrease.
Step 3. Turn off autopilot, put plane into 30 degree dive to "correct".
