It's just under 70gb but if you don't have 32 gigs of ram, I suggest putting a 32 gig paging file on your ssd too. It makes a startling difference in performance. Most modern graphics cards and cpus should make running the game pretty easy. One more piece of advice though, I find during the first roughly 2 hours of a fresh install that I crash or experience bugs more often and then it stabilizes. I think there's a whole bunch of ini's and config files getting populated as you play and it doesn't handle errors too well. Regardless, be prepared for many bugs initially and then after a while you'll kinda just start missing them. 30k's happen still but I barely if ever encounter other bugs now a days.

Also, sometimes the lighting guys like things a bit too moody. I set my contrast and gamma to 0.65 as soon as I install, and turn off motion blur, v sync and film grain.

Other than that, let me know what grabs your attention, there's all kinds of paths to explore and I've been noticeably boring and stuck to mining and basic bounty hunting when I'm not touring for views and fun.
Cool. Actually got 32GB, although it always seems like a few of that is tied up somewhere. Task manager is currently showing 27% usage, but the apps and services it shows only account for about 5GB and I have no idea what's eating the other 3. Still, should be fine. i7 5960X and a 2070 Super should be up to the task. At some point I gotta figure out how to OC the i7 because it's only running at 3 GHz and it definitely shows in single-threaded tasks.

Is there an ETA on 3.14? Is it worth waiting and installing then? I'll have to see about digging out the hotas warthog and pedals again... although I kinda need to keep one foot free to bounce the baby, as most of my videogame time these days is when he's sleeping in the bouncy chair next to my desk :P

Expected 3.14 to launch this Friday. So any day now.

Known issues log is quite small now. They are on patch S now, almost through the alphabet.

    3.14 is finally live.

Very big shakeup of the meta and of course the beautiful Orison.

Some of this sounds really cool, but jeeeeeebus did the missile locking stuff make me cringe. Particularly:

A target must be fully resolved (i.e. its signal must be the largest in the detection radius) before a missile will track it, meaning that enemy targets can try and outplay another ship locking a missile to them by releasing countermeasures or flying close to larger targets before the missile is even launched. If the missile’s target isn’t fully resolved before launch, it will simply dumbfire forward.
Modern, 21st century radar systems are quite capable of identifying and tracking multiple independent targets simultaneously and instantaneously. I get that we're not using radar and that things are a little hand-wavy here, but the idea that my ship's sensors are capable of distinguishing between two other ships immediately but my missiles need significant time to do so and might even be prevented from doing so by some fancy maneuvering is...

Well, it's probably necessary in order to make the game more fun and interactive rather than combat being dominated by missile boats.

So I shouldn't complain. I'll just grit my teeth a little.

    It's mostly a balance feature.

In multi crew ships, both systems can be used at the same time.
Atm I'm just trying to weather out the worst bugs.

    Yeah it's buggy as hell.

Multiple patch updates on PTU so I think they're grinding through them.

    I'm happy to wait.

My system is still taking a big hit at Orison, but it's much better than it was and I'm aware that my system isn't optimised for SC. Still some with much newer rigs are not doing so well....

So, I installed this again. Last time was about a thousand years ago, and it didn't quite work on a GeForce 960. Now I have a 3090 and it runs fine in 4k. Got a couple of joysticks coming.

First time playing/trying today with a friend. Managed to jump around a bit, until we got stranded by an illegal blockade. Brown spacepants moment when the "power turret on" and "exit vehicle" switches on the dash are next to each other

Hahah that's some gold right there.

I'm starting to get back into it a little now, I put the game down for 3.14 because performance was trash but I'm told 3.14.1 has resolved a fair amount of the issues and performance problems. I really am hoping we get hacking and salvaging soon, I'm kinda playing this daily when I'm in and having more to do would really extend my play time.

We did Xeno threat last night.
The even IMO was a parts hit and miss.

At 20:20 my time, the broadcast came out about it starting.
Sat there for 50!!! minutes waiting. That is just too long.

Event was kinda doing the same thing over and over.
Go to a Scan Point, protect the Scanning Ships as Nine Tails Spawns over and over.
The whole thing lasted about 3 hours, with the finale being an Idris.

    So the bad stuffs:
All communications to you are spoken verbally. If there is noise, gun fights, ppl speaking on discord of music in the background you just missed the objective..
Ballistic weapons are useless, the Revenant (S4) on my Warden had ammo for about 20seconds, out of a 3h missions.
Rest of the time was spent with 4 S4 nose guns that may or may not fighter. Gun firing grouping issue?? Also scanner going off all the time even while mapped to other controller.

I got desynced and crashed into a Hammerhead, next ship also died instantly to desync. But lastly in my Sabre, I got to lash out some real firepower.
4x S3 Panthers, can could fire for 5-6 seconds at a time and recharge capacitors for the next 20.
While this ship-combat-redesign might be good for PVP, doesn't live you with a good taste when it comes to PVE. Fire at Hammerhear and wait. Rinse and repeat.

    MISSIONS!
You have to accept the missions. And make sure you are tracking the right one, or you have no idea what is going on.
Game just assumes you know this.

So I've run Xenothreat 4 times now.

The highlight for me was when I was being lazy and just turret gunning in a Hammerhead which is intended to be an escort craft and anti fighter vessel, and we managed to actually protect one of the UEE transport ships and escorted it successfully through an ambush so the entire transport ship made it to the Javelin. It progressed about 1/3rd of all the resources required for the entire event and bypassed the normal cargo requirements because the transport ships apparently protect their cargo with no timers (it could jump, be damaged and take as long as it wanted).

The event itself bugs out fairly regularly and then sometimes comes back online on it's own. Earnings for doing the event are quite solid and one of the few bits that consistently works without hitch. Having done it 4 times but only completing it once, I've encountered a number of bugs, none of which are interesting, but even without the final payoff, I actually enjoyed more than 75% of every event I've participated in. There's bits that are quiet, but you learn to travel a little in a tight patrol around the wrecks and can usually blow up the incoming Xenothreat ships before they can properly begin evading or even shooting back properly.

All in all, this is about the most fun I've had in this game, and if events are regular when this runs properly, I actually might be under estimating my enjoyment of this game.

Now to wait and see how CIG fuck it up.

    Hey folks,

Just for anyone who is able to get on at any point, even if it's not for long, the Halloween event is pretty okay in verse and there's currently a reward for a super easy objective so I wanted to prod you lazy few into it if you haven't done so already.

Basically, quantum jump to Yela and then jump to the warp point for Jumptown. Just enter the building at the warp point and walk in and out a couple times to make sure and you should be awarded the Scarecrow helmet. It doesn't register immediately, only every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but I got mine super easily by going on Sunday evening and it took about 4 minutes to get and then was awarded to me on the Monday after.

    Here's what it looks like:

Or any of the other features they promised would be combined to create the single greatest living MMO world of all time which somehow has meaningful loss, infinite insurance if you paid $$$ and drop-in-drop-out single and multiplayer.

    U awfully mad bro.

Also, I don't give a fuck if some artist makes a helmet, I don't expect them to code shit.

Finally, I'm playing the alpha, so having events in testing for future events is EXACTLY what I want.
I enjoyed Xenothreat, I had some fun with the invasion stuff. Sure polish and stability are lacking, but that's the joy of an alpha.

How long does it get away with calling itself an alpha though?
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

As long as it wants and people give it money?

I mean, the original pitch for this whole project was that they were going to take as long as they want because they have no publisher, that was literally in their KS video as a good thing, and it kind of isn't a good thing, but it's been openly part of the core development strategy from the get go.

Unlike 75% of what's in the game right now (scope creep is spectacular in this project, but they're actually making most of it work so I guess I don't care).

Anyways, I've given up on launch and I'm just playing now and getting a fair number of good times so far just from random occurrences and a populated universe. I've saved stranded individuals, been blown up randomly for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, shot people who had the audacity to be AFK while I had a gun, got sent to prison for a long time and had my ship disabled only barely enough so all it could do was fly in very slightly oval shaped circles.

I can actually enjoy myself just cruising near the surface of moons and sight seeing because there's details that sometimes make for a very nice spot to stop and just listen to music before I log off.

It's not a great game, it's maybe not even a good game because of the bugs and crashes, but I am having a blast and more shit gets added almost regularly, so I'm continuing to have a blast.

With the belief that this project is not going to deliver on expectations so I'm setting mine to nearly zero. No launch ever and I just have to work with what we have.

We have Citizen Con on Saturday, and they have said the focus is on what is and not what will be.
So probably showing actual stuff that is made, just not released because of Server Meshing not being ready.

In two days, we will have tons more information about what and when things are coming.

Well, at least what is coming.

I am actually engaged because I'm actively playing so I will be watching live instead of just waiting for the summary videos like I did two years ago. I don't think I'll get more info, but I want to be surprised and watch the demos. I'm secretly hoping that homestead tech is going to be shown with a talk about how it will be in player hands in the next two years or less.

I think it's already been leaked that the next star system is being revealed with a bit more detail and readiness for release. I don't doubt it won't be 'soon' but progress is progress. I'm not really done with Standton but having somewhere new would be pretty great.

Obviously, in keeping with my low expectations, I'm not expecting progress on SQ42 this year but if there's a 'we are working on it' that'll be pretty meh to listen to again.

Huh, the semi joke 400i is okay and all, kinda not really doing anything I care about that a Conni doesn't do or a Carrack doesn't do better, however, that Liberator.

So it has 2 small bays, 2 x-small bays and some room for land vehicles, people, weapons, cargo and it can sort of put out some firepower on it's own. People have been saying pocket carrier for everything since this game started making it's larger ships appear in game, but this is finally actually it. A real pocket carrier.

I like that I find the design language reminds me of clone wars storm trooper tech to a certain extent. I like it.

Edit: After the Liberator they talked about the Banu Merchantman, and they're totally willing to make it big, competent and deadly. I expected a little nerfing to happen during the modeling and shifting goals to make the Kraken worthwhile, but from the panel, it looks like they just made it a little fatter and left it a very significant ship over all. Very interesting.

If I had a persistent crew of 4-5 people, that thing would be pretty incredible to run around with. A bit of a Farscape Moia feeling vessel, with solid trade and combat options.
