    I think the idea is that theyre prototype t2 weapons so it kinda makes sense. Personally i dont like the name limited, i would have gone with;
    tech 1
    Improved
    Upgraded
    Experimental
    Prototype
    tech 2

Meh cant say I like/dislike this particular change but I'm not liking the way they are heading in making all 4 races the same.

Was hoping for an amarr nerf (5 years after begging for amarr buff) leaves disappointed.

Fit an expanded cargohold expander, meta 2 is 30k isk and allows you to open a cyno with the skill level 3. Heck use 2 and you can open with lvl 2 or even 1.

These days, they are dumbing down all the things into generic-y-ness. Getting the meta level column for inventories was really helpful and it could have stopped there. It’s just making things more boring now.

I think it is a good idea to get some parity of meta names across the weapons but they could just stick with the current name pool.
I agree with this, with one small exception.

    Directly contradictory module names.

    Medium Pulses are Small Lasers.

Blah Blah Repeating Artillery is an Autocannon.

Change these small issues via equally characterful renaming, and we have a winner.

I also tend to like consistency through size ranges as well (a Model is Meta X regardless if small, medium or large).

But generic universal module naming is taking a good idea too far.

p much this, but it's going through almost every aspect of eve. no more flashy lights and wobbly bits on ships, every ship being symmetrical, all faction colour schemes just being some variation on the same godawful camo pattern etc.

They want to lure new subscribers over to Eve from Dust514, so the dumbing down of the naming conventions don't come as a surprise.

The problem becomes when they start dumbing down the game.

I welcome the basic effort of removing/fixing contradicting infos and naming inconsistencies. If descriptors convey false info (e.g "scout" for different meta-levels on different guns, "medium" for small guns or "artillery" on ACs), they're bad and it's not dumbing down to correct this, but fixing info-inconsistencies. However, what I'm not happy with is and what is actually dumbing down for no real reason is, making fixed descriptors for everything across the board (this "prototype", "experimental" and so on). As long as descriptors are consistent for a line of items (e.g. all meta 3 lasers are "modal", all meta 4 projectiles "scout" and so on) it's fine and adds to the individual flavour of the item-line while still retaining it's info value.

To describe Eve Online at a ripe old nine years of age, I find "long-term growth" to be an amusing choice.

This. Why does everything have to be simplified and streamlined? Crazy module names and flappy bits on ships and the Moa looking like a metal chicken being birthed by a suitcase adds character. Don't get rid of the character of the game.

I agree with this tbh. If I've learned the naming conventions for meta hybrids guns I should be able to apply that knowledge to lasers and projectiles. Artillery guns that are ACs and medium lasers that are smalls and beams that are pulses is just silly.

It's interesting that a game like WoW has item names that look like someone was throwing darts at a dictionary. They rarely make sense and the game does cater to the lowest common denominator. No one has ever complained about the item names as far as I know.

A game like EVE which is supposedly played by more demanding players and this is suddenly a big issue. Every item has a meta level indicator and that's been there for several years now. If it's so hard to remember the (weird at times) names of modules just click show info and viola.

Are you trying to imply the increase in eve subs over the years are down to the guys who started in 2003/4 opening more accounts?
