If i were to do this again I'd probably go with a satin grey/anthracit.

(this is painted but the colour tone is also available as plastidip)

Plus I'd try to use cutting wire for vinyl applications to separate the edges.
That's the beauty of plastidip, much unlike paint if you don't like it or want to change it just pull it off and try again.

TIL: My mechanic either botched the timing belt change in autumn 2016 - and had one of the cam gears slip a tooth - and/or just plain used the wrong mark on the crankshaft pulley when setting up ignition timing.

    How so ?

Well ever since I got the car back in autumn 2016 I've had this feeling in the back of my head that I'm down on power* but wrote it off as paranoia or illusion. Well, this weekend I had time and was a bit bored so went to manually check TDC in cylinder #1 by dropping the oil dipstick into it. No issues there, orientation pin on the crank is pointing up and the timing marks line up.

Then went and checked ignition timing with a timing light on the running engine and loooooool wtf. There's 2 marks/notches, one should line up with 10 BTDC and the other with TDC.
It's advanced way past the scale....the 2nd TDC mark is lined up with 10 BTDC, timing is actually at ~20BTDC.

How the engine hasn't been pinging like crazy speaks to our fuel quality and engine reserves I guess. Can remember one instance where I had that distinctive marble rattling sound last year though but wrote that off as a freak occurence.

So time to retard that timing, which is done on the NA engine by physicially rotating the CAS at the back of the valve cover.
Which doesn't work...because the mechanic also used a shitload of hylomar between the CAS and valve cover.
God damnit. After whacking it with a hammer and piece of wood to no avail I had an epiphany.

    Oil filter wrench!
    *cue MacGyver theme*

So after using some brackets out of the way and tightening the metal band on the wrench I was able to force it loose and reset the timing at a mild advance of 13 BTDC.
Engine sounds healthier and pulls much better towards redline again.
Here's hoping the engine didn't take any long term damage. :/
