Guessing that plate on the front is heated up for pre-detonating PIR devices?
A quick Google (probably putting myself on a half-dozen watchlists) suggests yes, it's probably the Rhino Passive Infrared Defeat System or variant there-of.

~ + an annecdote from Quora "The Rhino, heated electronically, caused the IED to fire prematurely. Once the Rhino had shown some solid success, the IED makers started building in timer delays. This, of course, was countered by longer poles on the Rhinos. It got to the point that the Rhino wouldn't need to be deployed, as the IED would go off behind the passing vehicle if the engine heat triggered it."

Chinese initial training for tank driver. Helmet limits field of view, stick imitates width of the vehicle.

Treating tank drivers like dumb fuckers is universally true for all nations I see.

Didnt they do the same sort of thing with Nich Cage's character in that shitty Fire Birds film in the 90's (Top Gun but with AH64's).

I loved it when I was 12yo, so it must be masterpiece of cinema.

I'm actually kind of impressed that the technology that the UK was using in ~2006 to defeat PIRs (which was much more effective than this) hasn't been replicated commercially and/or isn't cheap enough to adopt.

I called bullshit before I deployed to Iraq that we had the best ECM in theatre. I reviewed my assessment when about 2/3rds into the tour us and the Americans were deploying countermeasures. There's was a much less refined version of the above. Ours was pretty good.

    For anyone else wondering,

Norinco VP16B Remote control 40mm fire support platform, based off of the "Lynx" all-terrain vehicle family.
