Why is my internet not working?

Came home, internet (Virgin) not working, check router page, it's changed slightly (new firmware?) but all the settings look the same. Diagnostic comes out as 'cannot contact DNS' blah blah, did it again and it changed to 'windows has detected a symmetric NAT, you router might be slowing your shit down, yo' and now it just goes 'LOL I DUNNO'.

I can tether to my phone but it's raping my data plan.

    https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/
    IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Hit router reset button? Check it still has any required connection credentials stored.
    For UK ADSL:
    VPI

    VCI

    38

    Encapsulation mode

    PPP over ATM (PPPoA) VC-MUX

    Authentication type

    CHAP

    Recommended MTU

Call ISP? Tell them their firmware update they pushed is poor?

what time did this start having problems, and are you on cable or phone line virgin broadband?

On the odd occasion my VM connection has died, it's been up again the next day - maybe have a problem twice a year (but lots of times this year "due to the upgrades")

Is it a virgin media superhub or is it a regular router? If you still have the issue in the morning, phone virgin media on 0845 454 1111 and use the "if you're thinking of leaving us" option to get unofficial "priority" service

Nevermind, it seems this is a well documented problem. The new fireware breaks the wireless capability of Superhubs, yet Virgin have continued to roll it out across the country regardless and have still not officially acknowledged that there is even a problem. Brilliant.

If it's the current Virgin Media Superhub [TM] then it's a mangled Netgear.

So i busted out a cable and it still doesn't work. Network status is denied, device has no IP. I give up, i'm moving out soon anyway.
