    Yeah right.

I almost posted another image before I realised some fucker on 4chan had subtly shopped MLP onto the surface of Mars.

According to the local news, Mars is "our closest neighbour".

    I fucking loled.

We just had a fucking car travel 320 million miles, land on a planet by itself, and we predicted its arrival down to less than 20 seconds.

I don't know if the method for deploying the rover is the first applied to rovers, but good to hear everything went well. I hope they get good samples and find new data on Mars' geological, and perhaps biological, history.

Wish more nations would get into this so we'd have some competition.

I guess that depends, venus can be anywhere from 37ish million km to 250ish km away and mars can be anywhere from 57 million km to 400 million km away. How far away is each of them atm?

I had an impromptu rover landing party. I have the stream up on my TV, and some friends were downtown and wanted to come by and drink.

We're all electronics techs or engineers so it was interesting background noise.

Pluto isn't even a planet these days so no such hope for the moon.

I don't count the moon as a planet because it is a moon...

Technically the President's science advisor just used doublespeak to make it sound like USA #1. Anyone who knows more than just the basics of space exploration history will be able to spot his BS>

Does a balloon count as a rover? It's mobile at least.

Soviets don't count, they're not a country any more.

But seriously, he did say "land on the surface of another planet". He didn't even say rovers. Instant bullshit alarm.

Awesome stuff. So good to finally see some progression. Space is really where we've got to end up otherwise we'll all be dead on this over used rock we call home. Its really exciting. Truly epic stuff and I feel inspired

I guessed someone might ask this, so I made sure the answer to this was also currently in my favour before posting.
