Happening soon, though every news source cites GMT/BST/PDT/PTSD times to the point where I dunno when the fuck it's on.

Awesome, but rough timing. 1:30 am on w work night is a bit tough. Tempting tho to watch the coverage and just be tired.

There won't be any pictures until about 3:30 AM EST at the very earliest, and that would probably be a 64x64 pixel thumbnail from a camera with a dust cover still on it. But that depends on rotating the Mars Odyssey satellite so it can act as a relay. Apparently there's some scenario where we wouldn't know if it was successful for over three days.

e: I just heard the main rover driver on a hangout mention that his team's term for signs of life is "unlimited funding" lmao

Woah, they showed the wheels of the rovers... I didn't realize they were that large! (seriously, the wheel of the curiosity rover is a solid 3ft diameter (ish))

I'm often down on NASA but this is an incredibly ambitious mission and if they pull off the touchdown of terror they have all sorts of props.

Also what I would give to be one of the Geologists for this mission.

20mins or so. I can't help myself hearing, "Break break. Clear comms" when they talk.

Well, I wish it good luck.

The fact that there's like 150k people around the world watching this live is pretty awesome. I'm at my grandma's because she's been having some health problems and she was talking about how amazing the progression of technology has been since her childhood, when she clearly remembers her family getting the first phone for miles around.
