Comparisons to .hack are a little silly, since SAO is technically older. Although I guess it depends on what about the storyline you find familiar... it's not exactly blazing new territory with it's storyline. I just think it's a well crafted story.

Being completely objective (I...for some reason, enjoyed the LN) SAO is pretty much the biggest gary stu x mary sue I've seen for a while, it's not particularly interesting, and the writing/story/dialogue is pretty shit 90% of the time... however, the setting is fairly unique (at least in the anime world (lol wait no it's not) and the characters are realistic and emotional (lol wait no they're not)

... why am I enjoying this?
