Nah, it's a side story set sometime in the middle of manga (the OVA arc isn't even in the manga itself) and there's a quick catch up sequence at the start for people who haven't read the manga

The anime itself starts from the very beginning

Watched EP2 of Ousama Game. It's definitely another Mayoiga, not Another. I'm definitely okay with dropping it now.

    Inuyashiki

So, the OP isn't Database, but it's damn catchy and the ED is nifty as well. In a season without Magus Bride it'd be a potential contender for AOTS. It's actually looking like it could be nifty.

    Net-juu no Susume

Honestly, between this and Dad of Light I may actually have to re-up one of my MMO subs. Probably won't... but they both make it hella tempting. I had expected this to be utter trash, but it was rather charming.

    Houseki no Kuni

'dat pure CG show. Inu is a mix of hand drawn and CG, where this is pure CG. I had also expected to dislike this, but was quite pleasantly suprised. Not certain I'll stick to the end, but the first EP was neat.

    Animegataris

I guess this is the season's SOL / Characters in a club / Cute girls doing cute things? So many references.

Wait, what? really... well, okay, I guess I'll watch EP2 then. I mean, it seems sorta important to the cat after all.

    Just Because!

It's a romance'ish type of show? I like the characters, and thought the intro EP was interesting. Will be looking forward to seeing where Ep3 onward goes.

Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau - Children of the Whales

Wow, it's a non-shitty J.C. Staff show. That was rather striking and pretty. It's got a 'from the new world' sorta vibe, which should be really interesting. Definitely along for the long haul on this one.

    Dies Irae episode 1...

When translating a notoriously convoluted battle opera it helps if you get the character names right during their introduction

(It should be Malleus the nazi witch loli, Marie is the guillotine girl)

Other than that, marginally better, looks like they're doing the final route + some other bits.

Advice: watch the prologue introduction from the VN and then Episode 1, skip Episode 0, it confuses more than it helps.

    Imouto sae Ireba Ii. Ep2

This show is definitely trash with moments of 'greatness'? I guess. The undressing scene was surprisingly well done, and while it's thick with fan-service it's not too terribly overboard (it's not terribly believable though). Mind, some of the characters are trash (MC-kun?), and the whole basic premise is fairly iffy.

    New Ancient Magus Bride chapter

I think the author saw the last 3 eps of Made in Abyss and said "ye sure some of that please"

    Loliconics is an international treasure

    Good shows are still good

Dies Irae is suffering from lack of budget/experience/time/everything but it's not awful (yet)

Started today with Net-juu no Susume and then seamlessly binged Gamers, which was surprisingly good. Didn't expect that after watching the first episode a few weeks back, honestly. It could do without the last episode (obligatory hot springs), but what surprised me was how well the characters worked together.

Anything else that was good in the summer season I might have missed? I think I've only gave Made in Abyss a watch. Recommend me shit.

e: I've also tried to pick up Inuyashiki manga after seeing the first three episodes, but the scanlation translation quality was quite dismal. I wonder if 'd pick up on it if I hadn't see the correct translation in the anime first, but, eh. Guess I'll wait.

Crunchyroll have 80ish chapters of it, so I assume you'd be able to find a better quality scan out there.

also >assuming CR's translations are better than the scanlated manga

I have bad news for you (CR over localizes a lot of shit and regularly have one translator work on 5+ shows a season)

Gamers! Just to verify we're on the same page, the show basically ended on EP11. And it was a damn fine end (IMO). EP12, as they constantly mentioned in the episode was more of an OVA / DLC content episode. As such I really enjoyed it. I'm also really enjoying the hell out of Net-juu no Susume, I didn't expect it enjoy it that much because it's a pretty basic idea, but done surprisingly well. Although, grrr @ the idea of all these random MMO players living within a few blocks of each other IRL. 'dat hits in the feels, man.

I think these were all Summer '17 shows? But basically if you watched Made in Abyss you've probably seen the important stuff.
Made in Abyss, naturally, is the AOTY and has a damn fine soundtrack. Just, you know, don't expect to be happy watching it.
Tsurezure Children was supposed to be good, if you're into romance and stuff. I dropped it during the initial run after an episode or two, but heard enough good things I nabbed it for later watching.
New Game!! & Boku no Hero Academia - assuming you liked the first season was more of the same.
Princess Principal I watched a bit of, then archived. May try to get back to someday?
Nana Maru San Batsu - I guess I like random sports shows? This really suprised me and I really enjoyed the characters.
Shoukoku no Altair - If you miss that other historical shonen shows (DENKAAAAA!)

I don't care since I don't read any of it. Was just putting it out there to show there's more than one translation floating around.

I was looking into getting a Crunchyroll subscription, but their web viewer (for manga at least) is flash based, and since flash is cancer, I don't plan on installing it anywhere. Once I get a tablet I'll likely reconsider.

Why though? Doesn't at least a small part of the subscription go towards supporting the creators? Or is it due to your issue with their translation quality/style?

Killed fansubbing, underpay/overwork their translators, the debacle around their decision to nuke encoding quality after 24 hours (pirates literally get a better product) and finally, animation studios (much like videogame developers) don't receive any proceeds from their work once the publisher puts it out.

Some studios (Shaft, KyoAni) are exceptions because they're large enough to negotiate their own deals rather than having a publisher (Kadokami) looming over them with a big stick.

I guess you could argue that viewer numbers etc are a way of showing how popular a show is and effects the odds of a sequel but I'm 99.99% sure that Japan literally doesn't give a fuck about western viewer numbers.

Sub to CR for the same reason you'd sub to Netflix - they have enough content you want to watch provided in a way you think is worth paying for. If you don't want to pay, then don't watch...I mean just pirate - preferably without all the pointless justifications for why it's more than just getting something for nothing because you can. Don't bother trying to bring ethical consumerism into the equation. It's a wasted effort where no argument on any side holds up to scrutiny - since media is a shitty business where everyone is f'king someone & you just have to hope a good show comes out the end of it.
