So what's with the hate-on for the noble cap? I've noticed that the cappuccino attracts a lot of hating, particularly from the USA and UK crowds, but here in Aus it seems to be thought of differently.

Why the hate?

I don't hate the Cappuccino I could do with less foam, luckily there is a drink to suit me. The only thing I really REALLY hate is flavored coffee, not only because it tastes like roasted shit that was ground and brewed just to make my taste buds miserable it also gives me a headache.

Also I don't like decaff coffee, mostly because I hate blatant liars.

Decaff coffee is for people like me who love coffee but find it inconvenient to be addicted to caffeine due to work. Don't see what about that makes me a blatant liar.

I have an espresso machine and grinder (proper kit) sitting in my kitchen. Square Mile is run by James Hoffman who won world barista of the year 2/3 times in a row (I forget) and he knows his shit. Shame their coffee is too expensive to really drink every day. For every day coffee I actually have been known to buy wholebean from Starbucks - requires some tweaking to get the most out of it (generally higher dose from your grinder, their roasts are ALWAYS too light) but perfectly drinkable. I think Monmouth was also mentioned earlier, and they also make great coffee. They'll also grind it for you unlike Square Mile so if you don't own a grinder you're okay there, as long as you live in London since they don't do any big mail order.

I used to work in coffee bars (proper ones, as well as most of the chains at one point or another) so I know my shit. For general origins I love Costa Rican, some Guatemalan farms are really nice, and almost anything African, though more Ethiopia than Kenya (Square Mile has a fucking excellent Jirmiwachu espresso on their lists at the moment). Some pacific area farms are excellent, but my knowledge of the coffee that comes out of the region is awful and it's very easy to fuck with poor roasting or poor preperation - tends to be the most flavourful and heaviest coffees, so most susceptible to small adjustments. And Colombian is, in my opinion, generally quite poor.

If you can get it, Blue Mountain is probably the best dessert coffee in the world. Works beautifully with any butter and/or cream dessert.

Also I'm quite fond of kona blends. Haven't splurged the $50 a pound for straight up kona beans yet probably never will.

While is kona is nice, narrowing the time between the beans being roasted and when you drink the coffee is the biggest factor in determining a good cup. No matter how fine the product is when it comes off the tree, if it sits around after being roasted it's gonna suck.

Yeah, the grocery store I shop at roasts beans on demand. It's excellent my morning cup of coffee has improved greatly. Sadly my taste in coffee has regressed drastically so beyond I prefer Kona blends I don't have anything to add beyond that.

Since it was 30 degrees here today, I am willing to make a concession to my normal coffee drinking standards:

The cunt who originally took this image was apparently brainwashed by Vietnamese or something, since he used vanilla icecream (homemade, but fuck him). Take a cup of freshly made, hot coffee, pour into a tall glass, add 1-2 scoops of chocolate or coffee icecream, and if you're a true pooftah, add some cream on top with some fucking sprinkles and a straw, cleverly disguised as an umbrella.

Iced Coffee is tradtionally made with vanilla ice...

A few coffee geeks on another forum seem to like it. Loads of choice all freshly roasted and pretty decent service, if slightly pricey. I'll second what Zekk mentioned above, try Squaremile, or Monmouth if you can find it.

I've yet to try Squaremile's beans as everytime I go into Monmouth they have something new I fancy trying...
