C, there are also some physicists, chemists, plenty of engineers of various kinds, a psychologist or two, etc.
I'm one of the laymen you might say, no formal education, but I work for a start-up involved in developing new and improved fuel-cell components, so I feel pretty fucking confident on that topic and a couple of broadly related ones too. That still doesn't stop me from expressing my opinion on a number of other subject that interest me, but I'm always willing to examine new facts, or well-laid out arguments and modify my opinion to a less ignorant state. This last bit is what more people should exercise ocasionally, including you, Al.

so instead of calling him out in thread with a well thought rebuttal, you dismiss the argument as beneath you. very productiveYes, that is totally why I find that argument trolling / "not srs enough". That it compares Apples to Oranges and tries to make the other sides arguments look stupid by putting them into a totally different context instead of actually arguing about them has nothing to do with it.
tbh
Isn't it an option to make the subforum permission group on by default, or simply make it so that it doesn't require a whitelist?
In that case, it'll be moderated like the normal forums (ie: no removing of access, but rather just infractions/locks), but it gives a clear designation that threads in the subforum have a low tolerance for troll posts, and that it is discouraged from trolling there. A bit like the F&H subforum, where it's commonly accepted that FMAR tolerates none of your bullshit.
Just an idea to improve the idea of a Srsbsns subforum and make more people happy. Trying to get some consensus here, instead of needlessly polarizing this issue.
Was talking mainly about things like the US politics thread, or the financial crisis thread where it's mostly differences in worldview etc.
Oh, and see what I mean about getting personal? You couldn't make your point without insulting me and attempting to devalue what I said.
Not sure if I've ever seen a thread as bad as this one on FHC. Subforum seems like a dumb idea to me, but I'm guessing it'll fail on it's own or just be used by a select group of people that'll be happy with it and that's both fine with me.
Also: you know a thread is going places when Al Simmons is being the voice of reason (well, in his first post at least, maybe not the one above mine).
Why so mad?
Those threads are a prime example why people mostly dislike your posting and consider you clueless. You come off as a child that thinks his is the only proper way it thats how it should be. Just like with your former post. Quite a lot of people here are highly educated and know their field and can tell you a lot of it and place sensible arguments about it but you mostly ignore them and blaber on since you are the only one who is right. And thats why you're clueless.
Al Simmons posted another shit post and you're agreeing with him since its somewhat enforcing your opinion. But like usual he's wrong.

You were the one insulting people. You said that everyone on here is an "armchair lawyer." Which at the very least is insulting to the people who actually are lawyers, is sort of insulting to the people who have been trained in law and is broadly insulting to all the people who have expertise in their own particular area.
You're the one being insulting saying no-one has authority to speak when a huge amount of people on here do have authority to speak on subjects related to their field of expertise.
Hello? Oh, hello! I'm sorry it's a very bad line. No, no no... but that's not possible, she was sealed in to the Seventh Obelisk after the prayer meeting. Well, no, I get that it's important... an Egyptian Goddess loose on the Orient Express. In Space. Give us a mo....
... don't worry about a thing, your Majesty; we're on our way.
Um, Lallante, for one?
And don't be so obtuse, of course studying "law" doesn't make you an expert in "all of it", but neither is Dawkins an expert in ALL biology and Hawking is not an expert in ALL physics. But it does mean they know a hell of a lot more than an unemployed bum who is scared to leave the house, takes handouts from the government because "why shouldn't I?" (your words) and will not better himself because he's too fucking lazy.
