Clean account, no contact with your main. If you need isk station trade in Jita with another of your alts. Don't be a retard and play 2 voice accounts at the same time, much hilarity can be had.... all in all the effort isn't worth it, leave it to the no-lifes and enjoy the game (if possible)

Why do you need to ask the obvious?

Completely ignore anything Lord's Servant says. He's been ousted as a botter, and he's most certainly not a spy.

Since the is apparently no hard evident of him breaking the EULA at any point, presumably you mean 'botter' in the sense of a man who receives sex in the bottom?

Anyway, I'd imagine most people who publicly claim to be a spy are not actually spies at all. Being a big blabber mouth and being a successful covert operative would presumably be mutually exclusive.

Actually play with the corporation/alliance you are spying on - don't be the guy who is afk idling in fleet comms all the time and never says a word.
Accept the fact that to be a good spy you need to become a good member of the community you are spying on which means you won't get to play your main a lot.

Ask your "home" alliance to pay your main so he can stay subscribed while you are playing on your spy alt without you having to transfer assets between the two.

If you absolutely have to transfer assets don't use station trade as that leaves an entry in your wallet journal, use containers in space (and preferably use items that are faction loot wherever your spy lives to transfer wealth from your main to the spy).

Consistent use of VPN has already been mentioned.

Training for a different voice accent seems excessive but getting a really cheap microphone for the spy alt would be a good idea.

When copy-pasting confidential information beware of watermarks (always convert to pure ASCII before reposting it somewhere else).

This really. The more helpful you become to the corp the sooner you'll rise into a position where you can do things. Don't forget you're a noob but not a dumb noob. You know the basics but you know nothing about more advanced gameplay so ask questions and say you've never done it before. With api's nowdays a clean account is the most important step as you'll want to be in a position to offer your full api key. Be prepeared to offer it up even if they don't ask although you'll have to gauge if it's right to do it by how the convo is going. Don't ask for roles or hanger access either. If you're helpful and enthusiastic you'll get them soon enough anyway.

It's actually quite good fun starting over in this manner so enjoy it.

You'll need to stay focused as at some point you'll grow to like the people you're playing with which makes it much harder to do whatever it was you intended to do.

The most cunning tactic is to make use of a little-known social hack called the "Double-X Privilege Enhancement". It is the inexplicable way that having two X chromosomes allows effortless advancement within internet spaceship groups.

Odds are, as a typical Eve player and FHC poster you are not naturally blessed with two X chromosomes. However, it is possible to simulate the phenotype over the internet using the following methods.

    1) Make innocuous comments such as "That's not a way to talk to a lady" or "Sorry if I'm not playing that well, it's my period. I might have to AFK to change a tampon".

    2) When on voice comms, punch yourself hard in the balls before you speak. This gives the desired feminine voice that goes with an XX genotype. Don't worry about damaging your nuts, they're not going to be used for much else!

    3) Still don't have access to the alliance dreadnoughts? Use Myspace camera angles and photoshop to take picture's of your generous manboobs that omit things like chest hair and that residue you get from Cheeto dust mixing with sweat. Post them on the alliance forums and watch your access soar!

    4) Send more pics to the alliance leader telling him how hot you think his voice sounds when he tells you to warp out. Elicit nude pics of him in return which you use to blackmail him for every asset the alliance has.

A short tip (especially if corp theft is the goal) is to pick a carebear ratting ship to train for and use, then actually carebear/rat with it when you're logged in. Makes you isk and you can 'accidentally' get ganked occasionally to generate sympathy etc

Confirming "Double-X Privilege Enhancement" is the way to go and is fucking awesome.

Pretty much never paid for anything in game myself.

With regards to API keys to check for money transfers: I have noticed that after a while (60-90 days, maybe) your wallet journal / transfer history will be empty. This will not clear up your contract history, but if you have a large transfer of cash just wait a while and it will be pruned.

one thing to be careful of when spying is getting involved with too much pvp stuff, specifically the larger stuff. small scale you should be fine but in the larger conflicts its likely that someone will notice you sapping dispensers and sentry drones.

Spying is all about time and effort. Great targets are alliances/corps that are on the rise or recovering from a recent travesty. These groups tend to be in need of "go getter" individuals. FCs, logistics managers, etc. Put in the few months of being a backup FC or taking care of mindless buy/sell orders and then you could end up with access to the cap fleet hangar. The problem is you have to stay committed. It's easy after 6+ months of "spying" to come to the realization that you actually enjoy playing with your target. Then you rip them off anyways and end up not even playing EVE eve though you sit on your new 100b + fortune of goodies.

It's definitely a neat part of the sandbox, but give yourself a goal and timeline or you'll get lost in it like everything else in EVE.

My advice is to never waste time with shit alliances or corp or individuals, look for a big mark, and try to be evil. Viciously evil, in fact.

If you like the polonium killer kind of stuff, be a constant nuisance. You know, the kind of nuisance that you don't recognize as one, as it could as well be a honest mistake: POS going offline, stuff disappearing from hangars, passing to enemies fleet movements. Always do stuff that never leaves logs or a trace. Sapping a corporation like that is very funny, and even funnier is when the spy itself starts the witch hunt, for many laughs can be had from it. Remember to take a lot of screenshots and save the best logs, because the fun isn't just fucking people up, it's also telling them that they were stupid, that you hated them all along, and that they can't do anything about it anymore.

Minimize your lies, especially ones that can be easily checked. If you're an architect that works out of California then don't state you're a truck driver that travels all over Canada. Be helpful and agree-able. Have a clear objective but be willing to make changes to how you get there and don't grow impatient.

The type of spying I've done has been small scale objective based as opposed to for fun and trolling. Two examples that would never make Eve News:

    1. Several years ago our corp of 6 active pilots were planning to takeover a C2 WH that an alliance occupied that had a chimera, and 2 towers with more defense than we could really handle. I stuck in an alt and went mining for a few hours a week in there. After being in the alliance for a month one of the towers happened to run low on fuel with people too lazy to refuel it so I bought out of my own pocket fuel to keep it going and delivered it, refusing payment. Within a day or two they gave me fuel technician which allowed me to eject the carrier and bump it out of the force field one night so we could steal it (we also took ~30 other sub-caps). We setup our own POS and used that alliance's own carrier against them and quickly claimed the WH.

    2. There was a WH alliance we wanted to raid and destroy so I placed in an alt in one of the member corps. I had no interest in stealing, I simply wanted access to their WHs (this was before the locator agent change which made this trivial). They advertised their fleets in alliance so within a week we had alts in all 6 of their WHs. After that I simply used the alt to increase discontent between certain corporations. I was actually presented with a chance to steal about 6 billion ISK (two very well fit tengus) one night that I didn't take because we wanted the alt kept in the alliance for intel (also I'm not one to steal just cause). They ended up fail-cascading.

anyone remember the old times when D2 fought BOB and titans were rare? and D2 lost the titan after he logged off without realizing that a spy in a covops smartbombed him for aggro? that spy (digital communist on an alt account in einherjar rising) was doing all the covops work on that day for D2 - scouting fleets, creating warp ins .. in short: doing what a competent cov ops pilot does and helping D2 give BOB a bloddy nose in the fleet battles.

while it's good to keep a low profile, a low profile also means you won't get even close to the juicy stuff (intel, ressources, opportunities).

Which is pretty frigging scary considering that you definitely don't have more than 1 X

@OP: it's a really good idea to set the color scheme on your spy account to something completely different from your main account to further minimize chances of talking in the wrong chastbox or forgetting which character you're logged in with.

Train Starbase defense management, find mark with pos, join, get em dec'ed and receive roles. Thats the short version of what I did.
4 bill later, corp shares in my wallet, I'm the CEO chasing round the stragglers who won't leave the corp.
    Best time in EVE ever.

    Also useful:
    Covops hauler
    Freighter
Corp management (or the one you need to be ceo)
    Retarded mark
    2nd account
