Firstly despite every plausible form of news coverage on the matter none really seemed too hasty to mention that whenever an officer fires his gun in the line of duty here he is instantly placed on suspension and an IPCC investigation is mandatory, you could be shooting at godzilla attacking an orphanage and you'd still have to spend months explaining it and filling in paperwork. The fact that the suspect didn't point the gun at anyone was hardly a reason not to shoot him, he had a handgun, we can deduce that he intended to shoot someone and thus he was shot first.

That turned into a mini-rant... anyway, my point, guns are not useful for anything but harm and people use them for that, it's harder to kill quite so many people without access to one of mankind's most efficient methods of murder but as far as america goes the horse has left the stable.
Guns arnt very efficient other than speed tbh. Need lots of ammo need to be close or well trained and clear lines of site or know were someone is.

I used to believe guns have no purpose in life. Then I moved to Alaska.

Shit, that guy beat FHC to the "wouldn't have happened if everyone else had guns" line, mad props to him...

Americans: Why the EVER LOVING SHIT is a man like that a representative in your governing body? I'm finding it so hard to maintain my cynical "lol'Merica" approach here, when I see so much death and suffering your country creates without its citizens taking any responsibility for the batshit insane things that are happening there.

You're nuts right? Ofcourse some high explosive would be easier, but apart from that, using a gun it is a lot easier to cause a lot harm than just about anything readily available (at least in the US). This has nothing to do with speed, or ammo, or, in a busy place, with skill. In a crowd it is basically point and shoot and someone will either dead or hurting very badly indeed.

There's a reason why guns are still quite popular for fighting wars and such. Any child can pull a trigger.

Which is why it is so ludicrous that guns are still available to basically every Tom, Dick, and Harry who can walk into a Wallmart and put an X on the dotted line. (And don't give me that shit about hunting: know anyone who goes out deer-hunting with a handgun or an Uzi? Well, anyone sane I mean?)

You're right, it's counter productive. Sorry. I can at least fall back on numerous posts today that engage pro-gun law proponents in as civil a manner as I can.

I've just been following all the news development today and discussing gun laws all day with a number of conservatives and I'm not quite dead inside yet. It kinda affects me to hear people say shit like "Those 12 people only died because Muslim Obama is trying to take our guns." It's just so incredibly offensive that it just makes me tremble at the very core of my humanity.

My experience of theatres for movies are that when the movie is playing they are very well lit and quiet so obviously anyone that had a gun could easily have taken down this guy without having to shoot in very dark surroundings.
And obviously because the area would have been well lit if there was more than one innocent with a gun, say 10, there is no way that confusion could happen causing innocents to shoot at innocents thinking they were accomplices.
