    [TMA] Outdoor Sound Systems

    Hey kids

This summer I'm going to a friend's ridiculous castle in Majorca (yes rly) with about 30 other friends, and she wants to buy a decent soundsystem we can use outdoors around the pool but get serious, "club" sound, volume, bass etc out of.

I'm not thinking hi-fi here but rather a pair of those massive speakers on stands that you connect to dj decks etc.

Does anyone know anything about such things? Whats the least one could spend on a reasonable set? If linking to ones for sale they would need to deliver to Majorca or I guess could at a pinch be carried out from UK by a number of people but that seems a little tricky.

The thing about outdoors is, you have nothing to trap the sound in.. You need to think big.

Also you'll need an amp. (ok, seriously you'll need an amp with just about any outdoor speaker setup)

Ok so basically none of us know much/anything about audio so we would need a system that is reasonably self-contained and doesnt require too much technical knowledge. Basically we want two big speakers on sticks and somewhere to plug our ipods in, but we could be persuaded by a subwoofer and some kind of "mixer" whatever that is I suppose.

If you have ever been to mallorca .....it could also be a very very shitty place. The term Castle is used very liberal around those parts.

We've got a Yamaha soundpas 300 at work for small indoor stuff and it's pretty good and self contained but very under powered for outdoors work. I think they do a few larger systems too. I'd really recommend talking to someone at your local music instrument store who also deal in PA systems. They'll give you a few options and you can work better with what budget you have.

Its not actually a castle - I didn't want to spell it out exactly where I'm going because as Sacul demonstrates, google is effective.

FHC gatecrash in progress (there's *always* a Tony or Steve who said to just turn up).

Lana is right though. For anythng more than a typical back garden you'll need high sound pressure levels to get anywhere near club sound. I'd go the hire option and let them deal with it.

baWWWWwww id crash your party anyday lall

capaderp castle would be awesome tho (its a public place)

Seeing as it is mallorca wouldnt it be more effective looking at rental places overe there. Lotsa parties everywhere so if they have a bad sound rental service over there i would go and invest

Here's a tip: hire an event organizer firm. If you don't know what you want, what you'll get won't be good. Let someone knowledgeable do the work and just write the check. If your friend balks, they're a cheap cunt.

I think you guys have overestimated how much money Lall's friend is willing to waste. Just because you live in a castle doesn't mean you have to be stupid with money (even though you have to be quite "special" to really want to live in a castle, they aren't comfortable).

I don't have any suggestion though, whatever you do decide on it probably won't be cheap and like everything with audio, completely subjective. Just don't buy any £8000 cables because some arty guy in a beret said they're "danceable".

I would guess that spending more than £600 on purchase or £250 on rental is unlikely so guessing we wont be able to do this

I cant even begin to remember the number of parties i have been to where i ended up having to rig the entire soundsystem even though so called DJ's and their friends had bought all the kit...

Basically what im saying is if none of you know your stuff... RENT IT! Let them sort it all out, else it will just end with subs being thrown in the pool in a fit of rage.

Any decent outfit should be able to recommend a good setup if you give them your budget. Also you'll probably get allot more for your money. If however as you say the whole affair may have been slightly unrealistic due to budgetary concerns then go for an indoor rig you wont need anywhere near the same amount of power, and just make do with a Hi-Fi by the pool (NB stackign thousands of pounds worth of soundsystem near a swimming pool filled with drunk people was probably a pretty bad idea anyway ^^)

    Enjoy ze castle!

Nah dont think you'll get anything with a 600 pound budget.

Just had a looksie for active fullrange JBL outdoor speakers(You'd literally only have to plugin your fagpods) but those are 500€+ a pop, without the pedestal.
