    Group stage advancement

So hopefully someone can clear this up. The commentators have been talking(including CCP Soundwave) about how tie breakers work in the group stages. The commentators seem to think that in case of a tie, the team that won when playing the other will advance. However, as has been pointed out, the rules state it will be based upon points. I'm really curious if anyone has any real info on this. If the commentators are right, then RvB has secured a spot, as has fearless. If they're wrong, RvBs first win might cost them advancement, since they didn't take many points.

Group stage tie-breakers are decided on the previous stage's point totals, IIRC.

The problem with the team that won against the other concept, is that it is possible for three teams to tie on w/l. In that situation, each team would have won against one of the teams in the tie, and lost against the other.

This is how I expect our group to work out BTW, with Rote, RvB, and PL all finishing group with a 2/1 record. I am fairly certain that in this situation, it is to the two teams with the most points that advance.

Other convoluted scenarios include: the team with the most points taking first and the team that won out of the other two taking second, the two most recent winners advancing with the team who won between the two taking first, the two first winners advancing with the team who won between the two taking first.... (and my personal favorite) frigate 3 way death match with the last team alive taking first.

I just wish someone from CCP would step in to clarify exactly how the rules apply in this situation....

PS: I am rooting for you to win against PL though, as that means we advance.

The rules, posted somewhere, say that it's wins, then points. Who beat who olny come into effect if the points are tied.

Which I guess is why Rote came into their match with PL 8 points down.

The brackets where two teams have won two matches are done, the others have potential for very expensive bribery.

edit: in the already decided groups the advantage, almongst the winners, will go to the team that loses, for seeding in the final day, so we may see max points teams racing for the bounry.

And another thing, if goons win their match and Fearless manage to get in a winning poisition, they (fearless), could suicide a bunch of ships to stop the goons getting to the finals (or they could be paid LOTS not to, if they had a Goon money guy on hand..just saying)

There is also a very distinct possibility that we get wiped by VOC, and don't advanced because we get curbstomped.

ATTN Snake O'Negative: This only happens if Capital Punishment handicap themselves and wipe Goons.

I don't understand what you're trying to say.
Doesn't the winner in one group play the runner up in another group?

Apparently it shouldn't be taken for granted as they've 'purposefully not told us yet, it's a secret'. Probably so people don't attempt to get themselves into opposing brackets like last year.

Its not the case, its says teams that were in the same groups wont be able to meet again until the finals. So it would need to be the winners of groups A-D vs 2nd of Groups of E-H on side of the bracket and 2nd of A-D vs winners of E-H on the other side.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't saying that the teams from the same groups are in the same part of the bracket.

This. I was using A and B when I should have used x and y or something, I meant them as generic "not from the same group" examples.

    Sunday works like this:
    1500 O1: Group A first place v. Group B second place
    1520 O2: Group C first place v. Group D second place
    1540 O3: Group E first place v. Group F second place
    1600 O4: Group G first place v. Group H second place
    1620 O5: Group A second place v. Group B first place
    1640 O6: Group C second place v. Group D first place
    1700 O7: Group E second place v. Group F first place
    1720 O8: Group G second place v. Group H first place

    Then the quarter-finals:
    1820 Q1: O1 winner v. O2 winner
    1840 Q2: O3 winner v. O4 winner
    1900 Q3: O5 winner v. O6 winner
    1920 Q4: O7 winner v. O8 winner

    Then the semis:
    2000 S1: Q1 winner v. Q2 winner
    2030 S2: Q3 winner v. Q4 winner

    Then the finals:
    2100 S1 winner v. S2 winner
