so how are YOU feeling fatfreddy and ransf?

Pretty good, I have to say. Especially sleep-wise, I read a couple of pages and I'm off before I can put away the book. I don't dream, but that's because I smoke a lot of weed. If I don't smoke, I dream lots and all kinds of funky stuff, often pretty amazing (flying dreams, best one was where I flew through a vast abandoned building) and obviously shitloads of mundane stuff where I recognize pretty easily what everday situation my brain chewed through; haven't had a (rememberable) nightmare since I was a kid/early teenager.

Friend of mine freaks out when she has no weed and says she regularly has fucked up dreams full of blood if she has to sleep sober...people who lead a normal life and seem to have no psychological/social issues but still have lots of fucked up dreams don't seem to be that rare, I've heard about it more than once.
In my heavy and extensive experience with a huge range of recreational drugs, I can strongly assert that those "sober dreams" are most likely from your body 'repairing' itself back to baseline as it filters out residual drugs from your system. If you went sober for a couple of weeks you (/she) would probably stop having fucked up dreams.

I'm basing this on my own experiences and those of my friends, but our firm finding is that regular drug use causes strong dreams when stopped.

I dont know if this is relevant but I also get lucid, feature length dreams on a regular basis, particularly if I lie-in on a weekend. They are actually pretty awesome and have a compelling plot, characters etc and I have a decent amount of control over what happens.

I'm never able to remember my dreams sadly enough.
I only remember 2 in my entire life, a lucid one where I could fly in a giant steel container/building and one where I was a pilot in a eve/freelancer combined game.

Barely ever had dreams with tits in em no wet dreams either.

Most of my dreams make perfect sense when I'm asleep, so I write them down when I wake up, then go back later and read it and wonder what the fuck was I doing.

    My re-occuring nightmare:

Starts when I wake up late for work by an hour.

Then everything possible goes wrong up to and including the breaking of the laws of time and space.

    Such things that have happened:

People die and have their funerals the same day in 30 minutes from when I heard they died
The car won't go faster than 5mph
People keep asking me to do shit when i clearly tell them that I'm already late for work
The road Im driving on becomes a roller coaster like ride which my car cannot navigate.
The road simply ceases to exist for no apparent reason Just end of road

By the end of these nightmares I'm usually a full 3 days late for work.

    It makes no fucking sense.

I do however miss my lucid dreams. Those were fun times when I slept FAR TOO MUCH.

Those are kinda cool up until you start waking up then everything train wrecks, if you can roll over and go back to sleep those dreams typically end up with "me" trying to reset the plot of the dream where I left off, and it basically turns in to a permanent rewind restart while nothing ever seems quite right. This also happens to me when I'm having an 'action' dream and something I deem shouldn't of happened happens. It doesn't stop unless I wake and do something for 30 minutes and go back to sleep. Total pain in the ass.

What the fuck. I had some weird-ass dreams last night.

    1) I woke up in bed next to my grandma. I promptly shot awake.

    2) I believed that the universe was all just a simulation that I was trapped in. Whenever I tried to escape I was hit by blinding headaches (seriously painful) and was paralysed. I managed to gather my will to break out of the simulation and was succesful (I woke up).

    3) I was Harry fucking Potter on the run from Voldemort in a Land Rover. The police force was chasing me for murder, but they were actually evil dragons in disguise.

EDIT - I just looked up Sleep Paralysis and it matches pretty perfectly with what I felt during 2.

So one might conclude that you were propelling yourself forward by the use of wheels while a significantly evil-minded enemy observed and very much disliked what they perceived?

Dreams: I've had a few re-occurring dreams throughout my life, probably the most frequent and vivid "good" two I can think of are the two I refer to as "the house" and "the mall".

The house is, well, just about what it sounds like. Except possibly, every house I've seen, ever.

      Spoiler:
I start in a semi-familiar house that has a few fixed points that always appear in each occurrence of the dream, but each place/room is linked by a random assortment of corridors to a random assortment of places, usually domestic. Sort of like going from your ground floor sitting/lounge room into the foyer of a hotel, down a corridor into a grand ball room of the same, but the room off of that is the canteen kitchen from your high school. Then, two doors down a corridor is a hotel room located 15 stories above ground. There are a few connections to external environments, like entertainment areas, yards, driveways, etc. All different sorts of styles, from ultra-modern courtyards to the old house some relatives lived in when I was really little. It's pretty big, and sometimes I get the impression it's where my family live and other times that we're just visiting whomever actually lives there.

Generally, it's a very pleasant dream and I just like to wander and explore the locations.

The mall is similar, but more uniform in content, so far as that it is like the biggest mall, ever. Every store, ever, is tucked somewhere in its Byzantine maze.

      Spoiler:
I/we start in the parking lot outside, and walk in. There is a huge number and variety of stores, from small mom & pop types to full sized department stores stretching off alongside the promenades. Some are totally enclosed, others have a glass roof to let light in, some are open to air like markets. All styles, all classes.

The toy stores are usually impressive, even the "Pound Land" or "Two Dollar" types. I've actually seen (imagined) some pretty cool stuff on the shelves that I've made a mental note to try to replicate when making models, one day. Also, I can't resist browsing Lego. My mind has invented some amazing Lego sets, but it's a shame I can't really remember them to recreate them.

Sometimes I meet people I know or friends I've made, but I don't want to hang around talking too long because on some level I'm aware it's a dream and want to see as much as possible before it ends.

Also, there is a food court (of course) and there is a little walk-in ice cream bar off to one side that also does nice little cakes and drinks for afternoon tea, too. If you're ever inside my head, I heartily recommend it to you. The ladies who run it are always very cheerful and the décor is all wooden and clean. It's a little pricey, though.

Probably the only nightmare I can remember vividly is from a few months/weeks ago. That one is "the bombing".

      Spoiler:
I become aware that I'm sitting inside somewhere, close to the entrance of the building I'm in. Where-ever it is. It had floor to ceiling glass doors/windows where I am sitting, but they're mostly gone at this point. There is an intense ringing in my head, I can't hear anything else. I've sustained a neck wound on my right side. It's fairly painful. I put my right hand up and press on it because I understand I'm probably bleeding and that's what I should be doing if I am.

At this point I realise I'm sitting on my bum with my legs stretched out before me. My back is propped up against a counter or service desk, I think. My hand is getting really warm and my neck feels slippery. I think I've been shot or stabbed in the neck at first, but from the ringing in my ears and what little I register around me, I deduce it was probably more likely an explosion, possibly a bomb. There is someone dead on the floor not far away from me, but I studiously don't want to look at them. I know the person at the counter behind me is dead too. I think I was mostly shielded by the concrete pillar where the glass doors meet the glass windows/walls.

I try to get my phone out of my pocket with my other hand, but then I stop. I can't hear anything, so if I dial 112 how will I be able to tell when they've picked up, or someone is speaking to me, or will I get some robot voice asking me for my location before connecting to an operator, how am I going to deal with that if I can't hear?

Then I figure I have to at least try. I reach for my phone again, but either my phone is in a lower pocket and trapped under my leg or it's on the other side of my pants. Either way, I can't reach. I don't feel strong enough to reach under my leg and I can't reach across for the same reason, and I can't use my right hand because I instinctively know that taking it off of my neck (which still really hurts) would be Really Bad at this point.

So I just sit back, and for a second after that I'm terrified rigid because I know I've really started bleeding. My neck hurts, my hand and neck are slippery and hot and now my shoulder is warm too. Then I relax a bit and just feel mildly annoyed at the whole situation, more than anything else.

So I sit there and wait for help to come, either that or I'll pass out before it does and lose what compression I have on my neck.
I can still remember that last one pretty well, it was creeping the fuck out of me for days after. I still get the odd twinge when I'm out to keep a look out for "that place" and avoid it if possible.

So I no longer have terrifying nightmares, but I do regularly still have "powerless" ones where I am firing a gun or a bow and arrow or whatever and it is totally ineffectual or I run out of ammo. They aren't always nightmares - a couple of nights ago I was basically a commando behind enemy lines in this modern/futuristic war with nazis, and broke into this compound hidden underneath a cathedral and found a huge nazi experiment that had summoned an enormous demon. Although my gun wouldnt work, I destroyed the experiement equipment with a hammer and then I grabbed a spear and chased the demon and it climbed up onto the roof of the cathedral and summoned an alien spaceship full of more demons. Then I woke up.

Freud would say these are impotence dreams, but then Freud is a massive dick, so meh.

Same here mate, I had one where I was figuring out where I was going to stay for my final year and had a deadline to hand about a week or so ago and had to choose to do one or the other, I then remember getting really blagged when I realised I rememeber the flat I stayed in in the final year, woke up about 0.03 seconds later, devestated that I wasn't still a student. Despite the stress of assignments, it's easily my happiest period of my life.

I don't really have dreams since i've been on antidepressants this past few months. Just grey mundane reality interspersed with a few hours of nothingness.

    I had a dream that i was using a

I seldom have dreams, but when I do they are nightmares. Last notable one was that I was blind and thought I was being chased around by a basketball player, who I decapitated with a blunt knife & there was blood everywhere but it turned out to be an innocent person.
