Good Sleep - Dreams and Nightmares

Over the last 6 months I have intermittantly suffered from bad nightmares.

Recently, I've been getting them nearly every night, sometimes two or three in a night. Usually they are very coherent, logical and follow a clear narrative. I could literally write them down and it would seem like a fairly clear story (if I could remember them well enough).

They tend to be in two main categories - frustration and terror. I can get one of each on the same night, or one long one that spans both emotions, or one or the other.

    Some examples:
Last night I dreamed that a man, probably a friend of mine, was hiking through some moorland in the late afternoon. He had misjudged his timing and it was getting dark so he picked up speed. Suddenly he hears a low growl and then more, he ends up running through the dark. Eventually, he stumbles and goes down, and is torn apart by some black, snarling beast.

The next day I arrive in the area with some of my family. We are quickly trapped in a cottage with this thing outside. Somehow it turns out that the beast thing is being partially controlled, remotely, by this group of evil people. They have the ability to designate areas it will ignore and have set the cottage 'safe' but we cant leave.

They eventually turn the 'safe' area off, the thing comes through the window and some of my family are torn apart. I make a run for it and manage to vault over a couple of fences and just about get away. I make it to a car and just about climb in before the thing arrives, but it is on the bonnet tearing at the windscreen. At this point my girlfriend woke me up because I was obviously distressed.

The night before I dreamed a completely different nightmare. In this one I had bought a really expensive, beautiful remote controlled helicopter, I think for a cousin or my sister. My mother was there too when I tested it, but was acting really strange and aggressive (sort of like someone with Dementia). Although it worked great, she decided "it was broken" and began destroying it. She then started screaming at my boss (just some guy, not my real boss) and throwing things at him. I got fired. She was then running around hurting people.

I am not currently stressed or overworked at work, I've just been on holiday, my relationship with my girlfriend and parents is really good. Nothing frustrating or frightening has happened to me recently or is anticipated. All recent personal news has been really positive.

I am not to my knowledge ill, depressed or have anything negative hanging over me at all. I try to get 7+ hours sleep a night and am usually successful. I don't eat or drink last thing at night, or watch adrenaline TV/Movies or play games.

I literally have no idea what is causing this. Any suggestions welcome.

Or just tell us about dreams you have had recently.

Oh? Do you frequently dream about huge, steaming piles of turd covered in layers of vomit, rotting flesh and mlp figurines?

Every dream I have ends with my father yelling at me about something.

Last one I had was years ago, I was falling from what it looked like it was well nothing I just somehow appeared in middle of air and was crashing straight towards the ground. It all seemed so illogical that i figured out i was dreaming and then i could do what ever there. One of the weirdest dreams I had.

So calm down then? Not sure why having a nightmare would cause an elevated heart rate for the rest of the day, i suppose being tired could be inconvenient. Perhaps the stress of getting nightmares is causing stress which is in turn causing your nightmares that then cause more stress?

Alternative solution; do drugs. Full on drug fueled coma at night, drug induced superpowers during the day. Nothing can go wrong.

It's your conscience, which you thought you had killed off, making you pay for your many ill deeds while your sleep, when you can't squash it into submission.

One of my theories is that recreational drugs are part of the cause of this.

I sometimes have dreams, probably two or three times a year, where I meet what I can only describe as a spirit. Not odd in it's self to have ghost's in your dreams, but this is completely different because just before "it" appears I can smell sulphur. It's the only time I ever smell anything in a dream, and as soon as it happens I find myself having to look for whatever is around despite getting freaked out. It's generally a young child (6-7-8 years old maybe) or a woman, and they are always confused about where they are, what year it is or what they are doing there. These dreams are extremely vivid but rarely scary as such but they do upset me. The weirdest thing about these dreams however is even when I wake up, I can still smell sulphur, I can feel the burn in my nostrils and back of my throat and the smell lingers for approx 2-3 hours.

I've googled it a few times and there are lot's of post's about it being demons or evil spirits, but I highly doubt that is what I am experiencing. I though I was the only one who had these but I met someone this week who mentioned the same thing happens to him ( I hand't told him about my experiences till he saw my jaw drop) except a whole lot darker. Pretty confused/interested to find out what causes it, it certainly feels supernatural I highly doubt it. Anyone experienced anything like this?

    More than likely

Just that someone mentioned it earlier this week and got me thinking about it. here is a quote from one of the google results I got, nut jobs everywhere I tell you.

Hi, I discovered your story by accident when searching for ways to help people in situations like yourself. I too have experienced what you've been through, because I was once associated with a friend who was a medium (she is now saved praise the lord) and later became acquainted with another woman who was psychic. I was told that I had been cursed by someone involved in witch craft. Later, I would recveive messages from my late grandma and other relatives supposedly wanting to make contact. My experiences didn't get any better after that. I was now waking at 2 or sometimes 3 (they call this the witching hour) in the morning to a strong smell of incense and the presence of something hovering in my room. It would come to me in my dreams and frighten me so I would wake up crying, yelling, and my sheets would be wet in perspiration. I was told I had been visited by a friendly spirit! If this was so, then what came after it was something very dark indeed.

I now know you cannot trust opening a gateway into the paranormal, because there lies waiting the spirits of evil. Please understand that he who calls himself the angel of darkness is very real, powerful and pursuasive. He is beautiful to look at, but always remember he is the light of darkness and he will deceive you when and where he can. He will use all his resources to bring you down and to make you fearful. He wants nothing more than to deceive you into believing a formidable lie - That lie is that the truth exists in everything we acknowledge outside the spiritual realm of jesus christ and our heavenly father.

It is possible that you are more spiritually intune than others which now makes you a receiver. Be on your guard at all times! As a suggestion, use oil to annoint all the windows and doors in your home - you can bless the oil as you do this.

I hope you don't mind, but I wish to pray for you and your family? Heavenly Father, provide this woman with the sword of the spirit and the shield of righteousness, so that she can extinguish all the flames of the evil one. Give her the strength of your mighty angels to safegaurd her family. Let me now delcare her free from the lightforce of darkness. Give her back what has been stolen from her and perpertrated in lies. If she has been wrongfuly accused, I now declare her free and innocent. In the name of Jesus Christ, satan LEAVE THIS WOMAN ALONE. She is a child of God, she claims VICTORY over you! This is done and finished in the blood of our lord Jesus Christ. Praise God, Amen.

never really had nightmares, just a couple of those dreams as a kid where you always seem to be falling out of control and never seem to hit the bottom? one thing i have suffered from since my early teens though is that several times a week, when in that half sleep/ dream like state my whole body will seemingly suffer from some kind of massive spasm that seems to throw my body into the air :s

Well that sucks Lallante. Honestly it sounds like you're either doing something in the few hours preceding sleep to fuck up your brain chemistry, have poor sleep hygiene, and/or are stressed.

So A) keep track of what you eat/imbibe in the preceding 6 hours before sleep, see if anything correlates. B) Sleep with blackout curtains, tape over any LEDs/blinkenlights on devices, don't do stuff that gets adrenaline or other stress hormones in your blood stream before bed, don't use your bedroom for non-sleep-related activities. C) Take a really, really good look at your life before declaring you're not stressed. Most people are stressed to some extent or another, you need to figure out if there's anything that could be raising your stress levels, even subconsciously.

    Oh, and D) Stop shitposting/trolling. It'll help, I swear.
