[TMA] PvP Blues, and getting over that shit.

So pvp is shit and i hate it!

There, now that's out of my system... I doubt i'm alone in this. Have recently just had one of those bad streches where nothing works and everything you engage just turns out to be an exact counter or something. Minor mistakes you'd normally get away with 9 times out of 10 now without fail crush you and it's just loss after loss with the last awesome fight a distant memory. Normally after a bit of bad luck (or derp piloting) the talos is my go-to ship to cheer myself up, nice and simple with a wide range of engagement opportunities. but that didn't go anywhere... no big deal, my backup plan is always suiciding destroyers into gangs and going after expensive light tackle. ALWAYS fun, but nah... both fights i somehow managed to end up just running into the rare combination of kiting AF, loki links AND decent pilot. motherfucker.

So i'm looking for the ways you get over these blue periods, what you change about your playstyle for a while until back on track etc. And also i want you to share your stories of woe, just so i know i'm not the only terrible pilot in all of eve (i probably am).

Change your venue a bit. Fire up a FW alt and go have some dirt cheap lowsec fun in terrible ships. Alternately, if you're in FW, take some time off to go do a 0.0 frigate roam instead.

    -O
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those Thukkers, that way I wouldn't have to have any goddamn stupid useless conversations with anybody.

Honestly, i have no idea how people do ~true solo~ in bigger ships and without having EXACT intel on the area they're going to.
I personally keep it simple: stick to frigates for actual solo roaming, fleet up for everything else (or at least dualbox a scout which is too much effort for me 99% of the time).

Every time i try to solo in something bigger than a frigate i just get 0wned.
Three last attempts in chronological order:
    1. Got all excited about the Kovorix Tempest, killed like 2 retard assault frigates, proceeded to get dumpstered by -A- roaming because i was slow w/ scouting: http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=12885229
(ejected to save the pod as rest of their gang landed on other side of the gate)
    2. Wanted to try 100mn AB Cynabal, got permatackled by linked ceptor and killed http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=13095510
    3. Fitted a single-asb cyclone, entered northern provi (which i perceived to be better than r3- and surroundings), 3j later locals setup instalock camp specifically for me (map didnt show anything), gf http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=13856011
    I'm probably just terrible...

Stay away from active conflict zones, find some new pets installed in a recently conquered territory. Milk them for tears.

DMAR SFI, Myrm... Anything that can engage multiple hostiles and is pretty cheap. Watch them flock to you Dont overfarm the area though or they start to get a bit shirty and tend to warp carriers and BS onto you ^^

Flying with someone else or in a small gang is how I get over my "PvP slumps".

Also coincedentally, I'm free for the next ~2 months so roaming pretty much every day.

With that Kovarix tempest you basically somehow lost 1v1 to a hurricaine (the other two did negligable dmg)

With the 100mn AB Cynabel in that situation you always deagress and go for a gate/station. If you aren't at one you are doing it wrong. If you are webbed by anything other than a t3/recon you are doing it wrong.

With the cyclone wtf were you doing soloing a BC without a scout? Also your fit was beyond horrible

My vote as well. It is kind of silly but it helps you get back in the swing.

i've been in RvB three times since it started, and both of the last two times found it unbearable. Just endless whinging and bitching about rules and 'fairness', gave up on it tbh. It's a great idea though and something eve needs. Just isn't for me.

Protip: best way in to providence right now is coming in through y-mpwl afaik.

We're a bit short on 5-25 strong roaming fleets to kill in ustz atm.
I tried to be cool and all I got was a lousy warning about my sig being too big.

Go grab a slicer and solo idiots stupid enough to burn out for you. Don't bother with the fleets and what not, just go for your own collection of war targets.

I tend to have a bad stretch when I try something new or else go back to something I haven't seriously done in a year+. That and if I'm having a bad night of it then I'll stop PvPing for the night instead of compounding it as I've noticed once my morale has started to drop I'll start making more mistakes until I take a step back.

I remember getting into a fairly big blue period almost a year ago, it was to the point where I was wondering why I even played the game anymore. My solution to it was to take a few billion ISK and go suicide into fleets with it. Its different than simply going against the odds as I was not concerned with the result, simply the fight. If I still wanted to quit at the end at least I'd go out in a bang and if I didn't then it would rekindle my interest.

Basically anything that didn't field something that would completely counter me (falcon/RR/etc) or insta-pop me I'd dive into just to have a fight. I changed my perspective to not think about the ISK lost for that time period and found it to be a lot of fun to throw away something expensive and powerful like a T3/BS/command ship in a kamikaze attacks. If I somehow survived the encounter then I would find another until my ship was destroyed or it was the end of the roam. It revitalized my interest in the game and got me out of my slump though my wallet was somewhat diminished at the end.

About once a month now I will grab an expensive (to me 300 million ISK is expensive) ship and just go suicide it into a fleet. Something that I know has a lot of firepower and enough tank to survive for a minute so I can enjoy it.

    Fly smaller stuff tbh.

Go get a t1 frig, try out a random fit from FHC, etc etc. Also, as far as looking bad to make u feel better: I've lost ~30 carriers in my time in eve across various chars(The second one I ever lost I believe was unrigged as I forgot/was bad). Should make u feel better about ur losses :P

I also once lost an extremely expensive hyperion to 2 abaddons - they were neut fit (my exact counter), and I didn't have bonuses in system(they were next door).

Bad streaks happen to everyone. =D

    Contract stuff to Seraphina Amaranth.

I find I start getting worse if I have success with something for a while. I'm not sure if it's a function of developing overconfidence or what but I definitely seem to see a drop off in the success of tactics over time.
