Lifeguard saves drowning man's life in the US.
Lifeguard gets sacked because in saving his life he left his section of the beach to do it.
Qualifies for :lolamerica:, right?

We've allowed insurance companies decide the rules and what is right and wrong. It's all summed up in one quote. The plus side is he was making minimum wage so making the same or more elsewhere isn't that hard."We have liability issues and can't go out of the protected area," Susan Ellis of lifeguard provider Jeff Ellis and Associates told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Really? The argument they're giving is "insurance issues"?
If he worked in an office and in office hours exceeded the boundaries of his work place to save a life his employers would be crucified if they sacked him for leaving his work place without authorisation, which is basically what this guy's being sacked for.
Sarcasm?
Just seems like bullshit to me. If it was the other way around and he didn't save his life after being told he was in trouble and the guy died. Then it got out that a lifeguard for this company refused to let someone die because of "liability issues" then imagine how much bad press that company would get.
Late to party: Big ups to Jason + wife on "no cancer".
Thanks for birthday wishes from earlier this week.
Feel better, Overspark!
Going for an Echo test today to rule out heart problems as the cause for recent shortness of breath, odd intermittent chest pressure, indigestion, alarmingly high (all of a sudden) blood pressure (that always used to be on the low side of normal), and being fatigued|lacking energy all the time. Doctor suggested a few things that might be causing these symptoms so am now going through the process to rule different ones out--starting with what would be most likely to kill me first. Hooray for good health insurance and having two providers so none of this will cost me anything (aside: go DIAF, Obamacare). Already had an EKG (normal), got gallons (well, okay, six vials) of blood drawn for tests, and submitted saliva samples for an adrenal test or some shit. It is all kind of irritating but I want to start a regular power-walking regiment again and a) don't want to keel over from heart failure and b) don't even have the energy to start/stick with that. So...shit needs to get sorted.
On a related note, getting blood drawn is such an ordeal; my body does not like to let its vampire juice go. I have great veins until they poke me with a needle. Then all veins call a full retreat and disappear. Very annoying. Almost always end up having to get stuck in my hand(s) for blood draws--even when I take care to drink a lot of fluids the day before.
Other than that, sold two donkeys yesterday (yay, money!) and finished another painting for the book. Should do some cleaning or weed spraying this morning, but meh. Instead, gonna fire up the electric leaf blower and clean all the storm debris from last weekend off the decks and patios. For some weird reason, I love doing that...it gets things so insta-clean for so little effort.
Have a good Thursday, FHC.
BT have just had a really bad internet outage....my entire office is down.
so...I broke out the wireless 3g router...only to find the SIM card is missing and like a boss I took one for the team.
The entire company is currently using the internet using my SIM card.....bye bye sweet contract prices.....![]()

Interesting events, what's the betting the steaming/smoking liquid turns out to be coffee or tea, the bag/box it was being poured into was a cup and the thing it was being poured out of was a thermost flask?
Just learned of a good friends death. Happened some time ago. Really bummed I didn't find out sooner, how do you get that disconnected to someone you used to hang out with daily.
Hello? Oh, hello! I'm sorry it's a very bad line. No, no no... but that's not possible, she was sealed in to the Seventh Obelisk after the prayer meeting. Well, no, I get that it's important... an Egyptian Goddess loose on the Orient Express. In Space. Give us a mo....
... don't worry about a thing, your Majesty; we're on our way.
Easily, hell only recently have I started getting back in touch with some of my friends from highschool. I barely talk to my friends from college. Hell I didn't find out about one of my best friends deaths from the army until almost 6 months after it happened. Hell last I knew he was a civilian living in California, then he had to go join the national guard.
I've just woken up after whole night of strolling around the city with my friend and drinking alcoholic beverages of various kinds. I came back home at 4am, Massive hangover
Oh and I've watched yesterday's conference at CERN in a conference hall at my facultywas awesome, nerd chills etc
oh yeah and I passed all my exams with acceptable scores and I'm now back at my parents housefinally good internet ! and friends to hang out with
That was my first thought. And odds-on the person with the thermos happened to have brown skin
It's almost like that scene from Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.
