Lana's new phone - Aka, Fucking hurry up asus

So at the start of the year I decided I wanted a new phone or a tablet (tethered to my existing phone). I looked at the HTC one x as I like my current HTC legend, and the Galaxy 2 as phone replacements, but quickly discovered I still had 11 months on my current phone contract. Shit.

So I started looking at a tablet and discovered news if an upcoming 7 inch quad core tablet from asus. It was only a few months out, so I held out for it. Then news of it went dead and it vanished. (and turned out to be the nexus 7 which isn't what was originally advertised and not what I want)

So in march I started looking at the transformer series. I have an older eeepc and its lovely, if not a little old. The prime was a little old ar this point and the new range was due out soon anyway so I held out...

The TF300 range turned out to he an upgrade of the TF100 and not the prime... its still good, but a little price compared to what it was supposed to be. Plus the infinity is due out soon and so..... fuck..

Then the shining light that is the padfone comes to mind. With one device I get everything I want. A new phone and a table and a laptop replacement. The only down side is the price, but that is because they are all currently imported and there is no official Australian release, but its due soon!

So I Fucking wait, with $1000 ready to be paid for a new, Australian release padfone... and asus has taken SO FUCKING LONG to release and won't even give an update!

FUCKING SELL ME WHAT I WANT TO PAY FOR YOU CUNTS.

I can, except I actually want to see it and touch it and play with it for 10 mins before shelling out $1k.. Plus there are some minor differences in how the firmware is setup (keyboard being optimized for Taiwanese for a start) and you cant get an English keyboard yet (well, from the importers anyway)..

Despite it looking like the answer to all my priers, it still might be shit (and then i'll get a note or something)

If anyone else cares, asus responded to my repeated abuse mails. Official Aussie release date is Aug 16th.

Looks like ill know in a month if I'm getting this or not.

I have previously retained the services of an American to forward purchases to me, the price of which being the actual shipping charges and a steam game.

I would be looking at buying outright as im still under contract. Also its a tablet (and laptop) so the chances of me being able to do this should be good right?? right??

Well, all I have to say is that back when the Galaxy S I came out, it was about 3 weeks after the official release that I could finally get my hands on one. Every point of sale gave me the run around during that time, some more so than others. I'm not saying you'll experience the exact same trouble (indeed, I most heartily hope that you do not) but sometimes Australian retailers are ... weird.

Asus have released the Aussie price and its not good. I'd be interested in knowing what price you can find this for. 32gig model and dock and keyboard. (apparently we aren't getting the keyboard which is going to suck as that's a feature I was after)

To be completely honest, if you got the keyboard as well for the price they are selling it for, I would pay it no problems.. The fact that they aren't even planning to release the keyboard is just fucking mind boggling.. They have a whole fucking range of transformers with these things! (its not quite the same keyboard, it will work but the battery is incompatible apparently, so no charging off the keyboard)

Touchpad accessories were fucking murder to find even before there was a run on them - and I saw an article somewhere just the other day criticising the lack of range of available accessories being sold in the Australian market (compared to others) for another technology product, could have been the Nexus 7 but I'm not sure.

For some reason, either retailers or importers, seem to like shafting us as much for choice as they do price. /grumble
