Not surprising really. It's the obvious next step, not least because it's the only once in the franchise without a 2 on it yet (Napoleon basically being Empire 2 complete with spectacularly underwhelming AI). Besides, Rome is still fondly remembered as one the best in series. This might rekindle my interest after I failed utterly to fanboi over Shogun 2.
Empire and Napoleon almost put me off the entire series, but I am glad that I ended up playing Shogun 2 as it went back to having distinct units (Napoleon/Empire had almost indistinguishable units).
Personally, I'd love to see a mixture of Medieval and Empire, but I can appreciate that if you cover too long a period, that the game gets very Civilization like.

Yes please.
I loved the idea of Empire but it was so poorly optimised that even our current systems can't run the fucker properly, maximum scale naval battles run at 5 fps maximum and it's badness,
Shogun 2 was alright but Rome is still my favorite of the series
Been hoping they would make a second Rome game, the first is the best TW in the entire series imo. I really like Empire/Napoleon and Shogun but Shoguns setting wasn't the most interesting for me.
Ohshi---
This will be glorious!
I tried to be cool and all I got was a lousy warning about my sig being too big.
I actually love all the shoguns. And Rome with shogun polish will be fantastic.
I still think that Medieval II is the best in the series, especially with the add-on pack.
I just wish there was an uber-long campaign (without modding).

Medieval II Britannia is AMAAAZING, Teutonic is hard as nails and Crusades is fun too, roflstomping Aztecs is great as well. It's a shame that in Stainless Steel the turns take like 4 minutes each while you just sit there and watch nothing happen.
Also. I liked the 3 house political bullshit of the 1st one, I thought that was pretty great. Roma Victor!
oh ya rome was my favorite aswell. while shogun2 was prolly most polished of all the total war "2"s, Japan setting just didnt do it for me. rome is where its at
The thing that made Rome great was having very distinct unit types with variation in that. I have fond memories of playing as Macedon and getting to mix phalanx/pikes with the long spear cav they had. Then having merc options to pick up stuff your faction didn't have access to.
Shogun's awesome character development and thoughtful base development/econ applied to more diverse units and tactics would be excellent. Also looking forward to naval battles :P
Roman naval battles you say? RAMMING SPEED!
Romans had ships? I just thought they enslaved other people and got them to ferry about shit for them
inb4 medieval 3 spanning 500 years
Total War: Medieval Viking Invasion...of North America.
Calling it now.
