Kerb doesn't want to get anybody's hopes up but unofficial word is we're two, maybe three patch cycles from the all-clear. Game at this stage is certainly playable/fun, there's just some bugs and UI optimizations to hammer out. Content-wise it's all there AFAIK.

Also, the AI could use an upgrade, but as I understand that's going to be one of the last pieces to go in. No sense putting the final stamp on the AI until everything else is working perfectly.

    Probably this.

I personally have yet to buy Sots 2 because I never got through the terrible voice acting/ui of Sots 1. Ideas and mechanics are nice but when you have an ui that is absolute shit it makes it hard to get into and enjoy. So I'll put off my Sots 2 purchase until they've fixed it/put it on sale because of the critique I've heard it get from the fans.

Back to the conversation. Although I really like Soase for doing something new I felt the game itself was a little too much focused on combat and too little on planet management. Now if they took the plunge and added lots of empire management in realtime I'd sent them a truckload of money. The speed of Soase allows some more messing around with it too imho.

I'd really like to see more information on what this game entails, as it just popped up out of nowhere for me.

Hmmmm, had another look around their site today. Other than the 2 pics that Spasm posted there isn't any info about the UI and considering this is out soon'ish that isn't a good sign. Every thing i could find was just the camera zooming about and shots of the last 2 seconds of combat.

Starting to get a very SoTS2 feel about this release, def wont pre-order.

That seems really steep price to be honest. Seeing as how this is game is the studio's first they have to prove their capability, and yes although I grant them the money they could better go with a lower price point. As they have yet to prove themselves. That said I was interesting in pre-purchasing this before but the high price tag has put me back on the fence. I guess I need some more info into what exactly this game is and does, other than a fancy trailer.

A demo will probably be the dealbreaker here.

New trailer for humans and the X'or race:

Also apparently a third race which is yet to be revealed.

It seems like a standard sci-fi story with the usual races but the game is interesting me more than before.

ah yeah 3 races... For me a 4x game lives and dies by it's variety and replay value, do you think 3 races is going to cut it?

Sins started with 3 now they got 6-ish, SotS with 4, now has 6 and 7th will arrive in expansion.
Pegasus might start with 3, but who knows how they're gonna to milk it? :P

That second video about the X'or. Dear me, ship design looks like a complete mess with all those icons around the ship, can see that giving me space aids when i try and design a massive complex ship. Also the X'or history part where they found the ruins on a, "random planet" and the terrible voice over doesn't make me optimistic about the quality of the dialogue or the story line in general. The small amount of combat they showed as well (which is almost all the combat they have shown so far and the game is out soon™) looked quite terrible.

I rly hope the game mechanics are amazing with how they handle systems as that is the only part i've not seen any info/pics for other than dev huff bluff which isn't exactly detailed.

Will continue to keep an eye on this but with great games such as starfarer to look forward to expectations/hopes for this game are getting lower every day.

For the love of god how many times do I have to keep saying it? Sins is NOT a 4X game, it is an RTS with a control-point econ model.

You can explore, expand, expoit and dafinitely exterminate there. :P

    What's this control-point econ model?

Imperium Galactica 2 had 3 playable races. Well, at least in campaign, I think, I've saw some more in scenarios.

I brought IG2 only because I saw yestarday an add for that.

This is what worries me. The storyline in the videos already sounds cramped, tropy and bad. If the game depends so much on the campaign for introduction and story telling I have little hope after seeing these videos. I still hold the opinion that this game should never have cost more than 30 euros at most. I will probably delay my buy until a sale comes on or a demo is released. I'd rather spend the 50 odd euros on X:Rebirth on something instead.

I guess there is nothing to do but wait.

Dunno if you'll find this interesting but IG3s combat engine ended up being the foundation for Nexus. It's a shame it never made it out as a x4 because that battle engineen was exceptional.

It is a shame nexus wasn't popular enough to get a sequel let alone be the foundation for a 4x game. I would pay good money for a 4x game with nexus style combat.
