If all else fails there's always traffic profiling. Bittorrent, even when encrypted, looks completely unique. No other protocol involves connecting to dozens or hundreds of other people and exchanging low levels of data in both directions. There's probably also some shenanigans they can do with the congestion control protocols but IANA network engineer.

Pretty much. Or more like "20 connections to shit we don't know about on random ports".

The chances of them being right are pretty high too.

i used to torrent to a box on the core at easynet 1brick lane yo!) then scp them home, and eventually they cottoned on to teh constant SSH from one host at 2.5mb/s and throttled that too. not too much, but they knocked it back at peak times to "reasonable use for an ssh tunnel". it was pretty good.

regarding teh data speed issue, I have to wonder how many people are in this country where everyone has 10MB/s?

nto that it's relavant really. Data is as data does in country X. it's life. Jim

No. A Rhinoceros is not a fat Unicorn.

Map of fiber networks and dates. Doesn't specify FTTC or FTTP though as far as I could tell. (FTTC being 40-ish Mb, FTTP being the hallowed 100Mb)

Still going to be predominantly copper-based network for the foreseeable future:

are you on Sky LLU or ADSL?? LLU is actually pretty good i have that, i work for an ISP that offers fibre and we trialed 1Gb FTTC then coax to the house, unsure if BT Inf use coax or phone lines from cabs?

Never had an issue with Sky LLU, FHC works fine and dont get throttled when i DL 600-1TB a month, ADSL through sky blows large amounts of cock though.

If you have Sky LLU go to 192.168.0.1 and give us your noise ratio's please.

    should look like this.

    ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9215 kbps 1065 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 db 19.4 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 8.0 db

I've been on O2 the past few years. Connection speed is okay considering Kent's shit infrastructure and I've never had any kind of throttling at all despite downloading plenty of stuff. No fucking XXgb a month download limit either.
