Norway and USA agree to collaborate on integration of Joint Strike Missile

Defence minister Espen Barth Eide (also known as Barth Vader in some circles) announced Friday the start of the biggest government acquirement in Norway's history - the order of 52 combat aircraft for the defence, the F-35. Also the American government have confirmed its support for the integration of the Norwegian developed and produced missile JSM (Joint Strike Missile). The sale potential of the missile is estimated at 20-25 billion NOK (about 4,2 billion USD). This opens up the opportunity for 450 new workplaces and the possibility for us to get a lot back on our investment for the JSF programme and acquirement of the aircraft.

Defense jobs barely break even on their returns to the economy in the States. I know that working conditions in Norway are quantifiably better so I hope it works out for you. I'm not sure what the strategic impetus for this was though. Are you planning on joint strike missilifying someone at some point or something?

    This very much.

It's a stupid but very typical deal in that business.

The U.S. has a massive problem, because their new superduper F-35 is shit and doesn't find a place in the export market, therefore they are doing cooperating deals with allied countries that basically force the cooperating country to buy a whole bunch of unneeded overprized planes, that lift the sales statistics of the F-35.

Norway, actually not Norway but some norwegian politicians, can now run around and placate that they created 450 jobs. The latter is good, no doubt, but if you look at the price tag there could have been a lot better things to create the same effect for far less money.

Oh and some people in the business get huge, and I mean huge, commissions for striking the deal. They are basically the only winners in this game.

F-35 might be shit but the thing is it won't have much competition outside Russia's PAKFA and well...not a lot of PAKFA will be around.

Err, sorry but this is just plain wrong.

The F-35 is a deeply flawed design with the bonus of a budget that went above and beyond the horizon.

The basic idea was understandable: Let's do one plane as a multi role aircraft, that can be used by all sections of the military, because this, as normal logic might suggest, will spare a lot of money.

Except that it doesn't work like that. The ever expanding list of purposed roles, eventually led to the creation of three different aircraft, that look alike, but have not very much else in common. And every single one costs as much as three normal jets, too. And, as a free bonus, they do their respective jobs worse than a Dassault Rafale, that costs less than 40 percent of a F-35.

Since it is a relatively new design as well, it is riddled with all kinds of technical problems. The use of the word "problem" to describe the situation is very timid, because desasterous catastrophes are a better suited term in this case.

But the F-35 is a stealth plane you say? Yeah, I know. Oh wait, it isn't. Every half modern SAM system can track them.

Seriously, as much as I hate the Frenchies, but go and buy their planes and save yourself a lot of money and trouble.

Can Dassault support thousands of planes around the world? Doubt it. you're being a little short-sighted. On the plus side, at least the F-35 doesn't choke its pilots like the F-22.

I am sure they'd most happily do it. At the moment they are trying to sell their plane to everyone who can't run away fast enough.

They even succeeded in this mission by selling a whole bunch of them (120+ iirc) to India. I could bet their next stop is Pakistan.

It's a very cheap (about 90 Million $) plane, that outclasses the F-35 in absolutely every single aspect (except the nonworking stealth of the F-35) period and is even carrier capable with just a minor refit.

Hey as long as either the F-22 or F-35 finally fires a shot in anger... well I guess it'll have justified the profane expense and development time. Somehow.
