handbrake, and makemkv for dvd's that handbrake can't process fully. i'm not sure how to describe it technically, but some dvd's, especially newer ones, are only partially ripped when using handbrake. for instance, the documentary restrepo, when ripped, only pulled 15 minutes of a random segment. same with the dark knight.
when that happens, i use makemkv to produce a single big file for handbrake to process.
this probably makes no sense.
I still beilieve that the best dvd ripper for time and effort is the piratebay.
