Thought experiment - Allow player-player cash for aurum sales.

What would the effect of the above be?

Eg. Player 1 makes ISK from selling moon mins
Player 1 buys Aurum from market for ISK
Player 1 sells Aurum for $ to Player 2
Player 2 sells Aurum on market for ISK

CCP taking a significant (10%?) cut at the Aurum for $ stage. Only Aurum - $ transfers between players are allowed (selling titans on ebay still not etc).

Although it "flags" you. Maybe the system could have a built in cooldown period of a few days to give CCP time to eyeball the transaction

Legal implications of trade in real money, especially on an international scale. Unlikely
I tried to be cool and all I got was a lousy warning about my sig being too big.

How is this different to diablo 3?
    Contract stuff to Seraphina Amaranth.

I can't see player-to-player cash-for-AUR sales working out, either. But doing something like trading PLEX or AUR to some CCP in-game entity in exchange for RL money (less than the purchase price, natch) might work, though I'm not sure why CCP would ever implement such a scheme. (Perhaps as a means to lower the number of unredeemed PLEX floating around? I recall hearing somewhere that's something they might get concerned about.)

Legally it would be no different to d3.

People should declare their income for tax purposes. That's their own concern not CCPs.

Why would CCP give away RL cash for pixels it can create at will? There will always be free ways to fix these issues (e.g. give plexs a shelf life).

Can you explain why player-player cash sales wouldnt work?

How is this any different from the plex cycle? I don't see any significant difference. The increase in complexity makes it not worth it imo.

I presume that player-player cash sales would run into legal issues involving conducting international business. In contrast, CCP is already set up to do business across national borders, so having it be done through CCP seems simpler.

I fully realize it's not terribly likely, but here's my thinking: When you buy a PLEX, you're giving CCP money in exchange for a service - a promise that they will provide 30 days' worth of game time when that PLEX is redeemed. But every PLEX that is traded between players without being redeemed represents a service that CCP has committed to provide. I have no idea how many such PLEXes are floating around EVE's economy, but it should be fairly easy to understand why CCP might want to implement some alternate means of ending those commitments - and especially one which wouldn't enrage the playerbase, which attaching an expiration date to PLEXes might well do.

The trick is to add another plex sink via services, microtransactions, merchandise or whatever.

Giving the money back to players is pretty retarded from a business standpoint.

True enough. I wouldn't expect them to give back the whole price of a PLEX even if they did implement the sort of thing I'm talking about, and of course you're right that they're much more likely to deal with excess unredeemed PLEXes with one of those methods you were talking about - but given that the thread was about players selling each other AUR for RL money, I figured I'd bring up the only way I could see it working out to have people be able to make RL money by trading in AUR/PLEX.
