The cultural differences are indeed there, production value seems to be high and I have found it nice to watch a visualization of a book I liked. I can't say what the experience would be without knowing the story beforehand, as it is quite a mystery story with small clues in many places.

Have enjoyed many things that they have put in the background of sets.
I read all his (english translated) books and i watch in English so no subs or dubbing for me. Its just hard to concentrate on the things i mentioned all at once as i am not used to that combined.

Beware that the description box contains some spoilers for the story if one hasn't read the book.
    Is it worth the watch?
I find chinese shows hard to watch, language and reading subs plus culture difference in production.
It's definitely worth it if you've read the book, but I'm watching it with GF who has not and it's confusing and way too slow according to her.
The CGI could have used some more budget too (or maybe it's the awful youtube compression), there is no way they will be able to adapt anything beyond book 1 with this.
Subs are fine, don't even want to imagine a dub of this, especially since it's already multi language whenever the other countries show up.

I'm pretty sure they have some kind of metrics at work to determine what to do. But for the casual outside observer and customer, their decision making looks quite random.

It could be quite safe to assume that people of taste (like me obvs) pirate more than netflix subscribers and thus good shit doesn't get the views it should.

Or that there's simply less of them than average crap watchers. Hence lower viewcount/hours watched etc.

When people like Steven Soderbergh are addicted to Below Deck, what hope is there for prestige TV?

Can not remember where i read it but Netflix does this: They give a show X days and they count the views. The quicker it goes downhill the more reason not to re-new. After X days they stop counting. Many people will hold off watching a show untill season is done so they can binge it on a weekend. Netflix does not count those views.

Dont watch quick enough you are not in the metrics of 'succes'.

The chinese three body series has been quite entertaining, nice to see the differences in story telling culture, I doubt west could have turned the book into 30 episodes of 40minutes each, the story moves at really slow pace most of the time and then some important hints and pieces of the puzzle are only mentioned in passing.

Isn't netflix still releasing most of the stuff a season at a time anyway?

Yup. They also not counting a re-watch which many people also do. Watch alone, watch again with e.g. new GF

As the author said in the piece i read they are click-quick addicted and shooting themselfs in the foot. People are slowly stopping the time investment as a story arch wont be done in 1 season and why bother if it completely ends with a cliffhanger mid story.

Edit: And apparently they have a contract for two more seasons based on the next two books in the series.
I think I have to agree. Finished up S2 yesterday and it was really good! Gary Oldman is just phenomenal!

So just that I can understand that: the basically "inventor" of bing watching doesn't include binge watching in its metrics? I am confused.

I watched a 4 episodes documentation about the Unabomber on Netflix over the weekend.

Nothing groundbreaking, I remembered the overall facts (highly intelligent hermit, "against technology" etc.) from the reports back when he was arrested and trialed. But what's eerie, is that he's not too far away with the predictions in his manifesto from the world's current state. I could foresee members of the Extinction Rebellion groups turning into similar motivated violent attackers.

This! Was listening to a pod back in nov (Swedish Radio, P3 Documentary) and it had a lot of good stuff I had not heard before but also I honestly got chills when they did the manifest stuff.

Saw eppisode 2 from Last of Us last night, it pictured pretty good the origin and the fear of infection, the surroundings, close to what I feel seeing Chernobyl.

This is wrong largely wrong. Netflix's metric for continuing a show is weighting the overall hours of viewership against the # of viewers who complete the entire series/season.

Having 100 million hours of viewership in the first week sounds like a great hit, but if underneath that 90% of viewers dropped the series after episode two, your show is actually a failure. This is was what happened with 1899.
