Disclaimer: I haven't read any of The WItcher books, so I might totally miss something here ...

That said, I think most people/gamers are getting too anxious about The Witcher TV series.

The Witcher in the video games world is obviously a beloved franchise and a huge success. But that's due to how its mechanics were/are different compared to other games. But if it comes to the "screen's world", the transferable attributes (lore, characters, setting) arent' that unique or extraordinary, I think. So I wouldn't be surprised, if the TV series turns out to be OKish, but not overwhelming.

    I do hope, I'm wrong, though ...

What mechanics m8? W1 was a pile of wrenсhes, W2 a stock standard ARPG and W3 just threw open world over that.
Witcher's strength lies in characters that look like they might actually be sapient and drive the plot instead of TES one-line placeholders. Same goes for books.

All in all Witcher universe rivals that of GoT (latter one might be more detailed but not as expansive imo). They got a fuckton of material to work with.

Very much this. Mechanics were, if anything, the weakest part of the games. Its ALL about characters and the writing.

Good thing mods exist that made both W2 and W3 combat more nuanced and enjoyable.

Everybody remotely into fantasy should read The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. They have official English translations out now. That was one of the things holding back the witchers popularity. The characters and world building are incredible.

The main witcher 'saga' I can honestly take or leave. I did not enjoy it as much as the short stories, but I am willing to give it another read.

the 1st couple of books are really good then quality drops a lot. That is for the English versions so don't know if that is a translation thing or not.

Probably not, russian translation is considered superb and i liked the times when Geralt was just witchering around without family drama much more.

The comics are one of the most fucked up comics I've ever read, but also seriously good.
