I can't be bothered to dig up the old thread and it's outdated anyways.

So what are the currently running and soon^tm to be starting TV shows on UK/US networks? What are you will/you be watching? And please include long running, documentary, comedy shows like Top Gear, QI, never mind the buzzcocks those tend to slip past me.

Longmire
Currently watching the first ep. Seems good, it's a about a sheriff dealing with his issues and those of the county/whatever.

Tron: Uprising
Animated Tron show in the style of the new movie, not too great but what can you expect of a show for kids which has to build up a hero & maintain a legacy. Watchable as a filler though.


Scandal
About a "super awesome PR/lawer" person who "fixes" stuff for people who got into trouble with the law, which includes the President. Imho it was interesting at first and the other characters have some backgroundstories aka trouble too, but it turned into meh.

The Client List
Jennifer Love Hewitt works at a "massage" parlour, has a fat sister a missing husband but mainly titties. Meh except for the boobs.

Episodes
2nd Season, only one episode left. It's about a couple of writers for a hit UK show which is now being adapted in the US and features Matt LeBlanc. Good but too short.

Rizzoli & Isles
One hot New York Police detective and her hot medical examiner friend. 3rd season just started, well police stuff etc. Imho good.

The Glades
Chicago police offer who moved to Florida and likes to Golf and his, surprise, medical examiner friend. 3rd season 1st ep. Same as above.

Continuum
New show about a hot cop from 2070 who travels involuntarily to todays Vancouver with a gang of terrorists who she pursues with the help of a computer genius. Not that great, but what makes it interesting is that in her time Corporations are the state and now there's this cop who thinks what we consider undemocratic is alright.

FYI the next QI series (J) is being recorded atm and is coming the autumn. No word on new Top Gear, Doctor Who wont reappear until near Christmas (so the xmas special splits the series) and Sherlock won't be until next year. Thats a BBC update.

I'm finding 2 Broke Girls good over on channel 4 in the UK, don't know about anyone else.

true blood - still terribru

scandal - super woman always doing the right thing in a shady business - full-on clichés - made with a female demographic in mind, methinks

the glades - had a couple of good lines but became repetitive real fast. sort-of slapstick sidekicks and the chick has to play this annoying "meh my life is so hard but i'm a toughy" while being all cute/kind/currect and a great mom etc

veep - sort-of slapstick comedy about the vice president (julia dreyfuss) and/or government in general - camera in the style of 'the office' - australian tv had a (slightly) better one a couple of years ago "the hollowmen" and then there's ofc "the thick of it" with malcolm tucker (peter capaldi) swearing his ass off in every scene (with the climax in the awesome spun-off movie "in the loop" ). this new yorker humor just isnt my thing vOv

continuum - says scifi but that jodie foster wannabe has to run around in a present-day ssetting, all droopy, going "welp i miss my kid" while getting helped by a wesley crusher-kindof wunderkind (equally annoying, too) - sobad.... and i once had a crush on jodie foster when i was a little pup; but i cant even watch it for the chick

tron:uprising - yeah sure, why not vOv - has (more or less) big names as voice actors... already has a stronger plot than the latest movie but that ofc isnt saying much

longmire - well at least someone brought lou diamond phillips back from the dead -.- im sure 90% of the tv guides have "and together they solve crimes" somewhere in their summaries :rolleyes: the rest is the usual contemporary sort of "character development" aka soap -.- and i cant imagine how many dead people (or w/e) they can have in a backwater village in wisconsin

rizzoli&isles - it's castle without nathan fillion but with the usual "two completely opposite characters" kind of 'drama'/'humor'



the borgias - awesome costume drama with jeremy irons. unlike boardwalk empire, this series interweaves all the (sub)plots so it doesnt feel like a telenovela-in-an-unusual-setting but an actual drama.

episodes - is good

edit: yeah, two broke girls has the proper amount of biting adult humor 'required' for the lead-in of "2.5 men"

the season is already done in the US, will watch next season but more importantly, what'shername is the opposite of JLH, it's like she likes to wrap em up, so you can see they're big but nothing more, it's weird

Following this as well, not terribly impressed so far.

- Pretty much every single problem is solved with her magic catsuit.
- The bad guys are made to be absurdly evil to compensate for the fact that the main character is part of what is effectively the world dominating corporate gestapo. Leaves no room for character development and their entire motivation is dumb; "huur durrr we dont like corporate oppression, lets liberate the world by going on random murder sprees"...

Not a massive spoiler as its revealed in episode one but spoiler tag anyway;

The present time sidekick being one of the evil corporate overlords in the future is pretty interesting.

Agreeing with The Client list being pretty meh. Jennifer Love Hewitt is pretty hot but texas is gay as shit, the storyline is written for women and the entire concept just isnt very interesting.

Random shows that have aired season one over the last few months that i followed;
Awake - Cancelled.

A detective experiences parallel lives after he cannot let go due to a horrible car accident.

Pretty interesting but got cancelled after season 1. Involves standard crime solving (though in two different worlds/dimensions), general family buuhuu and some conspiracies. The ending is kinda vague but on the overall a pretty enjoyable show.

Grimm - No idea about status.

This cop drama will incorporate stories from Grimm's Fairy Tales. A cop named Nick starts seeing humans as animals and wants to protect society from them. Russell Hornsby is set to play Nick's partner and Tulloch his love interest.

Largely uninteresting cop show where he investigates crimes committed by monsters that only he can see. Show would be more amusing if the main character was insane and the monsters didnt exist.

Magic City - No idea about status.

In 1959 a mobster drama centered around a flashy resort/hotel called the Miramar Plaza. Star Jeffrey Dean Morgan is joined by Olga Kurylenko, Danny Huston and Kelly Lynch for what's sure to be a sublime palate of sex, violence and a bunch of beautiful people getting way, way naked.

Excellent concept, well worked out sets and decent actors. Of course if you've seen one mobster drama movie/show you've seen em all. Amusing but with every episode i become less interested as its all very predictable.

NYC 22 - Cancelled.

Crime novelist Richard Price collaborates with Robert De Niro on this CBS cop drama project about six rookie officers in high-crime areas of the city.

Slightly above average show about rookie cops and the random problems they face. Fairly light on family drama and mostly focuses on the actual job. Kinda like Rookie Blue only slightly different. Overall fairly enjoyable.

Person of Interest - Renewed.

An ex-CIA hitman partners with a scientist to prevent crimes before they occur in this drama/action project from J.J. Abrams.

Fucking excellent. Excellent story, excellent characters, excellent actors. Main actors are Michael Emerson (Ben Linus from lost) and Jim Caviezel (Fucking dreamy). Best new show this season.

The Finder - Cancelled.

Based on The Locator books by Richard Greener, about a former military policeman who can find anything.

Starts out strong, interesting characters, well written and the concept feels fairly new. Unfortunately gets somewhat repetitive half way in.

Touch - Renewed.

Tim Kring, the creator of Heroes, is working on a new supernatural project. This one focuses on a father who discovers that his mute, autistic son can predict future events.

Pretty interesting, large parts of the story revolve around connecting seemingly random tiny events into a large chain which is pretty well done. Over the course of the season it also adds some conspiracy elements. Show does drag on endlessly about the main characters wife dying in 9/11, it ties into the overall storyline obviously but it comes up quite a lot. Interesting show.

Overall Person of interest and Touch are both excellent shows worth following, most of the others are useful for passing time.

I want to plug a show that nobody watches: Bunheads.

Most of you will hate with every fiber of their being but if you liked Gilmore Girls you will LOVE this show. Same creators/showrunners and Lorelai's mother is in it too.

Breaking Bad is back for its final season, in two parts, each half a year apart, with the first half starting july 15th.

Veep is a shit version of the thick of it turned into an american sitcom. Watchable but nothing special.

Mad Men has just finished for the season, but it is basically the best thing ever made for TV (and I say that having watched and loved the wire, the sopranos, the west wing etc.) Go and watch it now.

I've become so turned off by TV because unless its a HBO series if its any good it'll get cancelled before it gets past episode 12. Its hard to invest yourself in a TV show when that happens all the time.

That said I need to give Borgias a shot, and catch up on Breaking Bad which is good but not great imo.

I've started only watching shows that make 2 or 3 seasons for that reason. Means I'm usually a couple of years behind but avoids the disappointment and lets me watch shows without having to wait a week between eps.

Still a bit peeved they canned Alcatraz, that was a great show and it ended on a cliff hanger.

I'm only going to say this once, but 'Allo 'Allo is a classic. You can't go wrong with any programme that involves The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies by van Klomp being hidden inside a knackwurst sausage.
