Liked the books as well and I think season 2 is off to a good start. Much better than expected to be fair. I wonder if they will manage to build up the Seanchan as well as the books, I utterly loathed everything about their society. Guess I'll keep watching.
As I mentioned already, I haven't read the books. But I agree that it picked up steam in S2 so far. All members of the group now seem to have a purpose (for the lack of a better term), whereas in S1 everyone meandered around kinda soulless.

One thing that rubs me the wrong way a bit are the different clothes of the different cultures/factions. Most feel like being different for the sake of being different and not because they fit the region/landscape/profession. Also: For whatever reason I can't remember the name of anything/anyone. No city, no faction, no character.

That's always a problem with these "Big world" series. The amount of flipping through the glossary at the end of the books was substantial during reads but at least there was something to help you keep track of characters. In the books the author goes into stupid detail about what everyone is wearing (particulary the women) and they have quite different styles depending on class and nationstates. Or regions within nationstates for that matter.

The books also have substantial political threads which we've started seeing some hints among the Aes Sedai in the white tower as well as Cairhien with its oppression of poor people and house intrigues among the nobles.

Yes, the original one apparently went a bit mad after Covid.

That was the books biggest hurdle to get over, the crazy amount of characters, names, places, factions etc that you need to get a grip on fairly early.
And this was always my biggest worry for a tv-show or movie, how would you handle all of that... and predictably it hasnt really worked.

I have not started on S2 yet, but I dont have high hopes.

I haven't read GoT either, but I didn't feel that "lost" after S1 like I do with WoT when it comes to the characters. And I still feel lost about the cultures/factions, which also wasn't that apparent in Got. Most likely because GRR went with more traditional (medieval) factions instead of making up new ones from scratch, with a few exceptions that were easy to keep/memorize track then.

Season 1 didn't have that many factions or characters. (The teens, the White cloaks, Aes sedai, the bad guys, the peaceniks ) It was just the bad writing and acting that made everything so forgettable.

If you like Roman stuff and have access to iPlayer, the legendary 70's show I, Claudius is on it.

It has such icons as Brian Blessed, John Hurt, Sian Phillips, Patrick Stewart (with hair!), and Derek Jacobi in it.

Wheel of Time: So much better this season! Is it still trash at times yes, but this is very watchable now! And Seanchan confirmed to be utter cunts.

One Piece: One Piece on Netflix is an absolute treat indeed! I have no idea on source material so cant speak to that but I really enjoy it and its well made!

Foundation: I liked it and want to see it continue, it got really, really interesting towards the end.

Ahsoka: We are back to shit tier SW again I see. Fine...at times its ok and I'll keep watching but fuuuck.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Ray Stevenson's Baylan Skoll and Hayden Christensen drag some of the Ahsoka episodes out from the better-to-forget to quality Star Wars level.

I think if they, like tripled the amount of dialogue, the rest of the show would have been as good as the vfx.

Gen V is good but also very Gen Z. Which is just a sentence I needed to type out to realize how old I am.

Not sure how I feel about spinoffs in general (creatively bankrupt), but this one I would recommend.

The Bear is really good. The editing is a bit choppy, and some of the kitchen stuff can be a bit cringe . But as a drama its good.

The end came a bit abruptly. I wasn't aware this season only has 8 episodes. Felt a bit hurried and could have been, say , 2 episodes more for my liking. But yes, much better than the first season.

I agree with this. Timewise it felt a bit compressed. Egwene's capture and torture by the Seanchan (and Elaynes and Nynaeves rescue attempt) was far more drawn out in the books for example.

But overall I think they salvaged the garbage tier first season and actually managed to make me look forward to season 3.

second season of The Bear better than the 1st
Some of the kitchen stuff still a bit cringe and unrealistic. . But as a drama really good. Especially the last 4 episodes.
