To be fair, not caring enough to have a real conversation over another dodgy election in that part of the world isn't the best criteria for judging if someone is interested in current affairs or politics.
If however they gave the same response (or a bottled party line response) to discussion on the Eurozone stuff or American budgetary issues or something like that which is not only pretty big internationally but something that might affect them personally then you could say you live near a bunch of dopes.
I think the difference is, in my area the affluent people are more likely to be snobbish pricks than it sounds like they are in your area. An it does sounds like you live in a nice community!
Well you could definitely argue that the election they had is pretty significant and not just another sketchy election, but in general I see your point. I had just watched something on the news about Egypt so it just happened to be the first thing I thought of. Unfortunately, any of those examples would elicit a similar response.
This mentality, that every disagreement or debate has to be a partisan hate fest, makes me want to give up on the human race. If people in America could relearn how to disagree respectfully and actually resolve conflicts, then we have hope.
EDIT: And btw, we've been disagreeing/debating in a pretty peaceful/respectful manner for the last 3 pages so I dunno why anyone fucking thinks it can't happen.
The fucking kid wont go to fucking bed grrrrrrr
She is either trolling me or i do tell awesome stories.....im going with trolling :damnsmart2yearolds:
It can happen, of course. OTOH, if there are 5 people talking in the pub and two of them get into a heated 'discussion' about politics, everyone else will be silently cursing them and whoever brought it up. There is a reason that is commonly advised to avoid politics discussion in 'company' unless very sure everyone else gives a shit.
Plus, once you've listened to (and taken part in) enough long-winded, full-of -yourself overly certain political debates with 20 year olds, you get bored of it... Not saying that those posting ITT about this are like that, but the overly-certain student windbag who always wants to 'discuss politics and current affairs' is a stereotype for a very tedious reason.
In other news, I have decided (again) I need to get out more. Wat do? Email people I haven't spoken to for 6 months and say 'wanna meet up for a drink?'
