Personally I prefer the Belf but go with what you like the look of, I just can't stand tauren animation hence the only tauren I have are druids.

Tauren (male) made me reroll back in the day when I started a shaman - I know it's just subjective, but their size makes them appear like they move really slow. Also old races' polycount... ouch
Don't pick for racials if you have strong opinions on the aesthetics of a race - it's pointless going for a superior racial set if you can't stand looking at your character. That said, neither boobelf nor tauren have particularly strong racials worth picking one over the other. They both have niche uses for some parts of the game.
It's not much but you get slightly higher HP and stun is powerful for PvP or for AoE-tanking lesser mobs, on the other hand an additional silence/interrupt is also pretty powerful (was more useful when paladins didn't have 10s CD interrupts tho) and restoring mana is nice. Enchanting is the better bonus to have than flowerpicking - obviously only if you really pick either of those two professions - and all resistance racials are meh.
Racial balance sucks, so pick whoever looks prettier
I'll miss the extra trinket but meh, either or I'm not too fussed like cows though as I spend a lot of time healing at the mO on me Druid

They're terrible now (useless in PvP, average PvE performance requires effort that far exceeds that of every other DPS, their best use is questing because you generally kill stuff faster than affliction/demo = less damage taken), and their MoP overhaul doesn't look much better. TBC was literally the only time they were ever "rapeface", since then you're better off playing mage or any of the hybrid casters.
