I use monster cable cables because they are faster and provide a higher quality signal.

Your posting is medium, its not rare and its not well done

Monster cables are a terrible example because they're marketing over performance - just look at their Beats headphones. They sound awful but they're marketed brilliantly.

Lets be honest here, if your going to spend $50 on a sound card you NEED good cables you are shooting yourself in the foot if you dont, you are just wasting the money spent on the sound card.

I know you're trying to troll, but you're right. The issue is that good cables can be had for £1.50/meter, and are only really important if you're running a second analog stage behind the soundcard (like a seperate amp).

The CPU cable is too short as you can see in the picture, same for the cooler fans cables. I'll flip the psu.

Worked at best buy for a year.

The employee discount was Cost + 5% of retail price.

    I got $50 monster cables for $4.

Haha, don. I'd have done the same thing.

You didn't answer how much the final cost of the system was?

About $2100 and that's not couting the mouse and SSD I already had. The 2 monitors were the expensive part of all that, but least next time I'll only have to change the motherboard, CPU, RAM and video card. This time I had to get the case, monitors, keyboard, HDD, PSU, etc.. that's what coming from a laptop does to you!

Surprise surprise there's a brand out there with a massive markup that's all about marketing over performance.

Expensive! But monitors will do that I'll be using yours as a reference for when I build one in the next 6 months or so.

Also the only potential downside of USB audio devices is USB related issues.

Or someone who's tested both and come to the conclusion that a dedicated sound card sounds better. Really am getting quite bored of this HERP DERP AUDIOPHILE NERD HIPSTER bollocks now.

But haters gonna hate I guess.

    Cry some more.

Unless you can show empirical data that a dedicated sound card > on board sound that is noticeable to the everyday user then it's just a matter of preference.

is anyone saying something about everyday user?
everyday users don't use super-high quality stuff anyway

I don't have dedi sound card myself and somehow manage with it, knowing that my iphone has a better sound quality than on-board chip lol

Are you lot trolling Zekk or are you thick?

An on board sound chip will not sound as good as a dedicated sound card, which will not sound as good as a dedicated system. Due to the tolerances/design/shielding of the electronics within the system (btw i'm an electronics technician with a considerable interest in audio equipment).

If you think otherwise, you have your head in the sand. Wake up, open your (possibly malformed ears) and listen to what you are playing (non mp3 music wise anyway). If you are just after 'in game' sound effects, yes a crappy dre set of earplugs will work good enough for you not to notice the difference. If you are looking for quality sound (be it music, films or whatever), you will do far better and really hear a lot more (like having your fav song ruined by a monkey on the mixer in the studio ) from more higher spec electronics, all along the audio chain.

Before you numbnuts start screaming 'audiophile', no i detract from snake oil that makes the electricity move 10x faster down the cable among other fucking idiotic claims. If it cannot be repeatedly tested on a spectrum analyser and proven in real world conditions, it ain't for me ... or the rest of the intelligent world either.

If you are lucky enough to roll with £250 cans, get a stand alone headphone amp on that shit you freaking hobo! Stop wasting what some poor sod of an engineer poured hours of work into (and about 5 minutes of a marketing fuckwads time) and get the best out of those cans!

    ...

99% of what comes out of my speakers is mp3, including the stuff in games... Because I'm not an audiophile. So why should I listen to something that starts with "except mp3"? You realize you're basically an audiophile preaching to guys who are not.

I think Zekk is actually being quite reasonable, saying only that it's down to preference if you notice it or not, but in his opinion a $250 set of speakers is wasted if you plug it into a crappy chip. I'm inclined to agree that if you don't notice that difference, you'd probably also be fine with a $100 set of speakers.
