    UMTS and EVE

I`m in a unique situation where i canīt get LTE nor a proper land line connection for at least two months. I have been using umts for a few weeks now which worked well enough in the beginning but for a few days eve and TS got unplayably laggy, ts pings from 200 to 2000 and eve updates every few seconds like eve battles in the olden days. Despite getting better internetz, is there anything that can be done from buying a better stick, software for the usb stick or simple tricks to improve the connection?

Nope. Mobile internet is always fucking shit for games. Especially shit for something like eve where DC = lose your stuff.

    Learn to hack wifi tbh.

    Best stay docked I guess.

I played a bit from the rainforests of africa on unpredictable 4-15k/s usb-stick internet.
    it was not worth it.
    i went outside instead.

I got an external HSDPA antenna for my data stick from some chinese ebay store and now disconnects are pretty rare, but I do live in a city with very good GSM/HSDPA coverage. I wouldn't pvp in it but it works.

So depends on where you live probably.

I've got myself a UMTS stick for when I did my few months in the army. Fortunately kept it, because I moved since, unfortunately to a house where there are no cables capable of giving high-speed internet. So I've been using it for pretty much everything for 9-ish months now.

The provider brought some fancy software with it, that shows the current bandwidth usage. Aside from being laggy as fuck sometimes, the biggest issue I had was the ISP being shit. The speed would just drop to 32kbit at certain times (on certain xx:30 or xx:00 hours). I never bothered calling them since the contract is not run through me, but it's pretty obvious they're randomly fucking with the bandwidth at times (and I'm talking of 2-3 AM here at times).

I personally don't bother with LTE because, jesus, it's expensive as fuck. Currently I pay 30€ for 10GB/month, LTE would easily cost me 10-20€ more for the same volume from the same provider. And atm I can just cancel my contract whenever I want, not only after 2 years as usual in Germany.

So yeah, I've played EVE on UMTS/HSPA for almost a year just fine now. As long as you don't jump into 50vs50s, even 64kbit (for when you exceed your monthly volume) is good enough to run EVE and TS at the same time. I have to bother with 64kbit two weeks a month because I watch too much porn and game streams. TS only uses about 30-40kbit, EVE requires fractions of that as long as you don't have to load systems/stations.

Eve works decently for me, now that i figured out the times when the connection is good enough. The problem i have is teamspeak.

I posted this on the teamspeak forums but maybe someone has an answer:

    "Hello,
the problem i have is that with the damned umts i use i cannot properly load a teamspeak server. I can connect to the server but then it gets stuck on loading the channels despite having a ping of 50/8 with a connection quality of 80% and 0 to 2% packet loss.

What made me post this thread and hoping for a solution is that i can connect sometimes, mostly while i`m downloading something, so it is possible.

I would very much appreciate any help given, thanks in advance."

I spend 3-4 months a year working in Delhi, i always use a stick or tether my phone there, the line may be worse than the adsl available but it doesn't drop during power cuts!!! Its playable (just) would rather have better ping but i'd wager straight up disconnecting with no way to reconnect, up to 3 times a night would be much worse for my wallet.
