I know if you brought it into my shop we'd tell you to go buy a new one and offer to save your data. Up to you if it's worth taking apart and cleaning yourself, because it probably won't be worth paying someone else to do it when there's no guarantee it will fix it.

Fuckity fuckfuckfuck.

Yesterday I Coke Zero'ed my Laptop. About a quarter of a glass on the left side of the keyboard.

Switched it off immediately, pulled plug etcetc.

Had it drying until now. Thought I'd give it a try (yes I am dumb and the only one to blame). Turns on, me sighing a prayer in relief, halfway booted, it switched off. FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU.

Now it won't boot. It still has power but switches itself off just about 2 or 3 seconds after pushing the butan. Did I just kill my Laptop or is there still hope?

Take the keyboard out, see if any coke got into the circuitry underneath. If yes, toss it. If no it might be worth trying to replace the keyboard. In most laptops I've taken apart, all the user interface buttons on the top of it connected to the motherboard via the keyboards wiring harness. It's possible you just b0rked the keyboard and the power button is shorting out.

My new PC (as discussed in yet another build thread) was near San open window. Earlier today we got a colossal downpour that made it's way in the window and soaked my new rig

Doesn't look TOO bad, no signs of water inside, except for the PSU, which got a ton of water shot in the back. I've got a fan blowing air in it right now, and blew an entire can of compressed air in it.

Luckily it was turned off at the time, or I would be down one system probably.

I have to buy a new desktop cos you have the same case as mine. (Well mine is white at least so at least I don't need to kill myself)

To give an update: The motherboard is toast.

The doc is still looking for a replacement to give me a pricetag. FML.

Slight thread necro, but update:

Got a call from my doc. Laptop is FULLY ARMED and OPERATIONAL.

Only took 'em a little more than ~6 weeks.

Now the interesting bit will be when I see the bill. Because, I actually never gave them the go to repair it. After I got the message, that the motherboard was toast, they told me, that they don't have a clue about the cost for the spare parts and that they'll throw me an update. Never heard of them again until today.

The lady on the phone tonight just told me, that she's sorry to disturb me during my vacation (I am not on vacation) and that they had to replace some cables, too. This would add 20 € to the bill. I am actually expecting pretty much anything at this point.

So, I won't blame the lady who called me yesterday, but it's been a full blown fucking 6 weeks for bloody fucks sake. They really need to put their shit together.

Heh, reminds me of a time I made the same mistake.

A John Smith (forgotten the real name) came in to pick up his dell he'd dropped off earlier, before I got there. Found it, paperwork says done, bring it up, check his ID (Wouldn't want us to give it to just anyone, right sir?) and see Jon Smith. Figure, whatever, they just heard his name and wrote it John. He starts to walk away with it, takes the paperwork off the top, then turns around and says "Wait, mine is pink. This isn't my laptop."

WAT

I look again and find a goddamn pink dell with Jon Smith on the paperwork, also brought in that morning and done. Dodged a bullet there, could've been a much better laptop and the guy could've just kept his mouth shut. Thankfully nobody else was there to see.

Incidentally, I'll be surprised if that place can do it at a price worth paying. Any idea what they're charging in labor to install it? Never heard of a laptop motherboard replacement being worth it unless you find it it cheap and the labor is damn near free.

Got a call this morning. It should be okay to just do an intensive cleaning and replace the keyboard. Pricetag just short of 100 €. They need to import the keyboard from the US, this will take another three weeks. I gave them the go. It can't get messy for me at this point. So I am all .

Was pretty cheap.

Only downside is, that I have an US keyboard now. I have no idea what I am typing here.
