Found out today that my town approved Section 8 housing ACROSS THE STREET from the high school. So fucking glad we decided to send our kid to private school. In 6 years when she has to go to that building we'll change our address to mom's second home (in a better district) or actually move there.

Now I have to figure out a way to prevent my wife from finding out about this because she'll demand we move now.

Also, Friday \o/. Gonna get a bottle of Stoli and make some gimlets for us tonight.

You miss the point. Completely. Having kids gives you a new set of priorities. Instead of wanting to "feel good about yourself" by pretending to "look out for the poor" etc, etc...your job is to get the best of everything you can for your kid because it's a competitive world and you want his/her life to be better than yours.

We don't have a credit card (we do, we dont' use it) and we struggle to pay to send her. She is not awful (thanks to us) and we're striving to keep it that way.

It's funny cuz, this morning, I didn't know what the construction was. So I asked my co-worker next door via IM and she just laughed. I went to her office and she said:

I don't have kids and yet I fully understand your perspective. You should probably not pay too much attention to people who completely disregard your horribly selfish desire to put your kid's welfare before everything else and not risking that on an argument you don't believe.

It's sad how people don't get that. It's all ~words words words~ in the end you do what you think is best...

However I think you're a little too afraid of poor people. Surely you will always play the biggest influence on how your kid grows up, how he/she will react to inevitably encountering drugs, what he/she will eat, etc. If you think it will turn the school into a post apocalyptic crack house you're probably wrong.
