What do you mean "now?" In D2 buying gear with real money was rampant, just as it would have been in D3. Sure, its easier with the RMAH, but it was there anyway. See 700 euro weapon on ebay.

    Omigod, this. On both counts.

He pays with his hard earned money. Seems ok to me. No fucks given about RMAH even though I am not planning to use it.

I take pride in doing ok at my level without buyign gear at all. I do't give a shit about others.
Though i occasionally ask friends to leave if they are twinked to fuck, as I want to see how i can do alone.

know this will stop at act2 inferno until 1.0.3, but who cares really ?
(ps. Not me - will probably stop then and play another class, or i dunnow, go back to my yacht in space)

    Unless he wants to PVP...
Also it not too far fetched to consider that they will end up balancing the loot drops and game difficulty to match RMAH. That said I haven't complained about RMAH, just as long as the trends of it doesn't affect the overall game balance ...

After announcement of RMAH I gave up any ideas I had of pvp
I mean what's the point? You can either invest a couple 100$ which I don't intend to do, or lose to people who do intend to pay a couple 100$. I mean if the game wasn't so much gear based then eh it can work. But what I've seen so far it is more likely the class + gear that will own in pvp, rather than actual skill of the player.
I mean diablo 2 was also gear based but an item upgrade of a few dps was an item upgrade of a few dps. The scaling on the gear in d3 is extreme to the point that a small increase in gear can mean a lot to your performance. Which is probably intentional (people 'feel' when they get an upgrade) but for pvp? eh...

    Whiteknight mode on:
    1. they have stated numerous times the game is balanced around no AH.
    2. Blizzard is a HUGE company. They are under a massive spotlight. Any clandestine shenanigans will fuck them.
    3. I doubt more than 1% of players will use the RMAH (note: making this shit up) and they'd use Ebay anyway.

There is absolutely no way of checking 1 through 3. So they can basicly balance things however they want to maximise profits on the RMAH.

Still fun game though, looking forward to when they balance Act2 through 4 out.

When you make it to inferno you need to use the AH to upgrade items. At least untill patch 1.0.3.

    Breaking the pyramid

You would be surprised. Farming high lvl inferno areas was pretty much a massive goldmine soon after release. People started to take notice so they just farmed all day erryday once they got there. Things like resume game -> waypoint to quest -> kill quest mob, loot -> port out and leave/rejoin rinse repeat.
Because the demand was high and the supply relatively low, the very few that did get there started selling items by the boatloads. The very first 'wave' of high lvl inferno people was really really small, but the amount of gear they provided allowed for a larger group to get to higher acts, who also did the same and such the cycle continued.
So now you can get act 4 inferno items on AH for a couple 100k. But before this the actual people who got there first, they were very few.

It should also be noted that during this time things like 3second smokescreen and 4.7k hp force armor wizard were the order of the day.
Such build what would be considered "cheap" got through inferno quick and were amongst the first to begin the loot sale.

Hopefully they introduce ladders like in D2, that should cause the shit-storm to die down as ladder characters/items/stashes get partitioned out once or twice a year.

The fucking tears in this thread ...

Greatest opportunity to profit from lulz since ever. Wait till peeps start buying peeveepee gear. Fucking win, gives a reason to play this garbage. Will now actually download pandabear beta as the chance rmah does nor come to wow is essentially nil in the face of declining sub numbers.

    EDIT

Okay the followup post to my post disappeared but basically what I mean with is that this post that I'm quoting is dumb as hell.

Must say because of rmah iam tempted to script an ah bot.. do you think warden will detect it when sleeptimes and coordinates are randomized (by a degree of some pixels)? Should be even doable with a simple g15 makro so not even using autoit.....

I think the problem people have with people being able to buy things with money is that it reaffirms ones station in life in an environment where you've gone to escape from that, or at least feel like your skill is the difference maker. If you're reminded of how poor you are by someone who buys shitloads of gear on RMAH, well it's hardly uplifting.

(I don't subscribe to the above opinion by the way, just presenting it as a reason people might find real-money markets in games annoying)

That's the only non-hypocritical reason that I can think of.

I very much agree with this. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it.

    Another view is:
I could spend 2 hours farming inferno and maybe get a drop, or do 2 hours overtime and buy a 200$ sword.

(nb: i'd actually do a weekend's overtime and take myself and the missus diving for a week, but that's not the point)
