iirc when I finished normal with my wizard I was breaking 900dps and I had crossed 1k with my witch doctor (lvl 32 and 34 respectively). My witch doctor is currently lvl 38 with 1798 dps (and can go higher if I use soul harvest which can stack upto 430int on top). My wizard is currently lvl 44 and has 2.8k dps (she has the glass cannon passive and sparkflint familiar)

All damaging abilities are based on weapon damage which is then modified by your primary stat. So both.

Ed: And this applies to all classes, casters and otherwise

ed2: Item I bought in the AH 6 hours ago just appeared, so... it hasn't swallowed your money, just wait

So I'm farming the Butcher on Act 1 on Inferno, trying to get decent gear for either myself or another class so I can sell on the AH, but I'm getting crap drops, the thing is it's not just a case of poor stats, it seems the item levels are really low too, stuff for lower levels etc, generally low stats etc.

Anyone had an success doing this? Got any decent items?

How did you make it all the way to Inferno without getting the memo that bosses give crap loot after the first kill?

    Edit: hurrr, ok

It's inferno, he's farming it using 5 stacks of Nephalem Valor, which resets your Boss kill count. In short, you get a guaranteed 6 blues and 2 rares for every boss kill with 5 stacks.

Djakku: Yeah, the AH neccesarily means that drops are going to be lower than we would want or are used to from say... WoW. The amount of gear accessible at any given time is much more than D2, so drop rate of really great stuff is comparatively lower as a result. However, I've been farming Act I as well for some time and must say I've geared up quite nicely. A few legendaries, one that I'm using and another I managed to sell. The thing about Act I farming is that it's not so much grinding for that one specific piece of armor that will do well for YOUR class, but rather generating income. The entire concept of Act I inferno is to start the process of gaining some money, sell good drops from other classes that you get so that you can buy good gear for your class, then progress to act II. Include the occasional legendary or set piece that drops in Act I, and there you go.

The drops can be quite awesome, just don't expect any ilvl60+ items. They won't drop.

Ye, I feel it's like that too, guess will just farm farm farm.

Call me a conspiracy nerd, but it seems like gear you need, drops at a higher difficulty level, or in a later act. Forcing you to generate gold, and buy from the AH. Once RMAH hits, all the good items will be sold on that instead of for gold, securing a revenue stream for Blizzard. It's like they wear there entire business strat on their sleeves ^^

i have been farming that same act, and while a lot of the drops are total shit, some of them are amazing. for instance, i got a fucking level 60 legendary from a god damned barrel. yes, a barrel. it had correct stats for a demon hunter, and is worth anywhere from 600k to the millions, depending on the level of retard on the AH.

but i run these farming sessions with 3 other friends, and we always give each other the stuff that counts for our classes. it's really wierd sometimes, as i always get fucking demon hunter gear, while another always fucking gets monk gear, etc. i'm not sure there is anything to this, but it's what i've noticed. in the end, after a few days of this run, we have found ourselves downing that butcher fucker faster and faster. while act 2 still rapes us, there is definitely an improvement among us all, in both "skill" and in gear.

so yeah, run it with friends who are willing to share, have a diverse group composition, and clear every area out completely. stick with the butcher part of act 1, lorics's passage or w/e it's called, i believe it's section 8 of act 1, and just farm the fuck out of it. smash every barrel, unturn every stone. i swear.

plus you get a ton of gold, so you can eventually buy the pieces you are missing if you so dare.

oh and another tip that has worked for us is to have a magic set for everyone. when you see the treasure pigmy dude, or a resplendent chest, have everyone load up MF gear. he isn't hard to kill and it's so worth it. if you have a barb with the magic find shout, you should definitely spam that. we also do the MF gear thing for the jailer warden guy. he actually drops a ton of shit for some reason, and is easy to down with bad MF gear.

tldr: farm act 1, you can definitely get level 60 stuff, even legendary. i swear.

Pretty sure you can get legendary items at any level. A friend just found a legendary shield in nightmare A2 (Hardcore), also from a barrel.

You can get legendaries anywhere, but the set pieces are the lvl 60 stuff that are confirmed to drop in Act I.

Also, for the struggling melees in act 2: There is a very clear threshold of gear at one point when you can progress. Yesterday I got raped by every form of elite. Tried it again today with two new pieces of gear and I got 5 stacks and downed Maghda without dropping below 75% health (as a monk).

Very happy, feels like a real step up after the past few weeks of failing miserably in Act 2.

So, in terms of itemization, is there any reason NOT to just stack Primary Stat, Vitallity and Lifesteal Per Hit?

My level 22 hardcore wizard in late act 2 is pulling 1.1k dps on the character sheet. In reality it's probably much less because I still haven't found any wizard skills I really like.

Around 42k hp, 550 resists (unbuffed. 800+ buffed), 9.5k armour buffed, 13k dps. Stacking full dex gems in slots, life gem in helmet.

Current adapted build from previous post is: Keen eye, sweeping wind/mystic ally (depends on solo or not), flash, breath and serenity. Overawe or hard target, depending on situation.

Only really have trouble with heavy buffed snake champions, mostly because those guys hit crazy hard in inferno.

Progressed normally up to Kulle now, continueing tomorrow because tired.

Do you end up primarily kiting with Deadly reach or is it, blow CDs in melee range, then get out and wait for CDs again.

I've sort of given up with Act 2 progression currently as I've not gotten any decent loot to sell/use from Act 1 so I'm fairly "soft" even with 8.5k armor, 13k DPS and 400 resists.

Without Resists you'll still melt instantly to any of the champ mobs. Some builds scale really well with crit % or crit damage as well, and lifesteal % obviously scales better than per hit if you have enough dps.
