Which other matchs were pre-planned?
Final, Co2 vs Wild boars, and another match in the Co2 + Wild boars bracket where two other teams made the exact result needed for Co2 to not advance, it involved one team pulling a complete destruction of the other while itself losing enough points and having the needed handicaps. IIRC that match also included self destructing some of the ships for the needed outcome.

And wasn't there one match with hydra where they self destructed after killing all but one enemy ship to game the matchmaking system?

I have no idea how CCP plan to enforce this in a fair manner. If you already qualify for the next stage then you won't necessarily want to use one of your unused setups. At the same time if you've used expensive based setups early on then you don't necessarily want to field them again at the risk of losing them (especially if your team has only a small budget). Does it mean using a mix of t1 cruisers/frigates be considered not competing?

Similarly its easy for someone to "forget" to turn a hardener on, or not properly focus fire, or for a logi to be slow at repping, or for pilot "error". What about if an important part of the team suddenly gets a disconnect? Or if some of their team couldn't get online?

As such its just not really workable, but has a high possibility of bringing honest results into question.
TBH getting a good show is the most important part, engineering victories will always be possible by selecting fleets so that one counters the other perfectly and so on, but the main thing is that we won't see blatantly obvious rigged matches.

TD's get used plenty in AT. I can't believe some of the points system, a faction cruiser being more expensive than a tier 3 bc? A tier 3 bc is rated lower than a tier 2, wtf?

Yeah, but what else does this counter beat? Very little. It's a specific counter, whereas the Alpha fleet has a general application.

it has sufficient dps to kill a lot of things...winmatar rush would kill it unless you had enough TDs

Wouldnt that whole alpha fleet be jammed out/damped down/ be being outtracked before they hit anything?

Does it actually count as "blatantly rigged" when you end up fighting your alternate team though? People would have called it rigged no matter what happened, and iirc with each teams pool of fleet setups they might as well have played rock/paper/scissors to see who would win the final, as the outcome would have been known the second we saw who brought what. Under those circumstances, why not take the fight un-seriously just to piss people off and get a reaction from all of the srs internet spaceship captains?

fake edit: Also, someone is gonna get disqualified over that rule and cause a shitstorm that makes the hydra thing look tame, calling it now.

Was gonna post whether or not knowing a match had been decided beforehand, and was therefore basically just a performance, meant it could ever be considered a good show, but then I remembered how many people earnestly watch WWE wrestling.

Wouldnt they also have no tank and be dead before the got the jams off them?

Seriously, people saying the tier 3 BCs are going to kick ass need to look at them a bit better. None of them can really tank that well, and if they dont get to unleash their awesome alpha potentual immediatly, they wont be alive for very long. They do however give AFs something to do this time around.
