For deer stands, I've found it's best to pick one of the various clusters of three, and keep looping them. Clear out all the junk in each spawn point, toss it under a tree if needed, then loop back around. Usually there is enough distance between them that the first stand will be repopulated by the time you get back. Many people use tents nearby to then store/keep the good stuff, but unless you hide it well, don't count on anything being around within a couple days. I've started checking all around the clusters for tents when I first move into an area to see what has been farmed (and my little group of 4 people had our tents raided last night thanks to the server puking up extra tents in the area making them viewable from the deer stand). But they can pop out lots of nice stuff. We had a collection of silenced clips, ak variants, m16s and a m4a3 cco (the latter before my cousin shot me in the face and pack glitched it away), and nabbed an M24 last night just before heading to Stary which was an obvious sign.

For downed helos above, I've seen two now in the open field directly east of Green Mountain/south of Pogo in the past week.

Updated range card for the DMR. Its changed. 3 dots unzoomed used to be 800m. Its now not. Please use because it took me ~20 mins to make it. This is all data for headshots. Edit- Headshots on level terrain!

Different to how it is now..
Right now focus seems to be on stabilising features and increasing performance rather than adding new ones (some new stuff will make it in I am sure). But with a patch a week and nothing realy said before it hits patch notes its any ones guess, I would expct at least helo's sorted and available though, and possibly radios and possibly some more group stuff, but all that may be more than 2 weeks away.

Ok, progress. I can see where I spawn now, and more or less find my location on the map linked a few posts above.

First spawn, just outside the airstrip in Baltoa. No zombies, which should have run alarm bells, but I ran into the first hangar and found no less than 3 humvees in various states of disrepair and a hangar full of jerry cans and car parts. I quickly alt-tab to check how to repair vehicles, and get back into Arma just in time to see another player put a bullet in my face.

Second spawn just outside Tulga. Spend 15 minutes trying out some basic orienteering, and working out my location in relation to the three valleys. Avoid Tulga itself and instead head for the deerstand. Climb it, realise that it's empty, become trapped by two zed's, die.

Only positive is that I discovered a RL mate plays DayZ, and has an M16 and some supplies. Trying to work out voice comms with him via SMS, and just get a period of silence followed by "argh, killed". Looks like we're both back to basics.

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever alt+tab. If you need to go AFK right now it is infinitely better for you to just disconnect to the lobby.

And if you must alt+tab, don't do it near loot spawns. Run to a forest and go prone if you can, you'll be much harder to find and kill.

Am currently logged off in NW airfield having snuck in early this morning and gotten a M4A1 CCO out of a hanger. Popped some guy who was farming the place, he was riding from barracks to barracks in an ATV so I just waited for him to ride to the side I was on and shot him in the head. Sadly he had nothing of value.

Wasn't my normal server so the ATV was useless to me. Only things I really need to round out my gear now is NGVs.

noob question, when you run around with gear like "i only need nightvision now" how do you manage to not get killed 10mins later when you found it? so far always when i found sweet gear i would lose it shortly after. maybe its overconfidence or just bad luck, but staying alive is hard as shit. zombs aren't as big a problem for me as players. right now i feel the most comfortable with an axe and a handgun if i can find one.


yesterday night we started an expedition to zelenogorsk starting from kamenka, we were a group of five people. Three of us are playing this for a few days now and two people were actually first timers but they learned quite quickly. We had some good basic gear, Morphin for everyone, some matches, one compass, food, blood, canteens. Three of us were armed only with an axe, one more with a Makarov lol and our leet shootyman with an M16. It went quite well, checked deerstands but found nothing of value but was good practice for our group. As its max 3 zombs per deerstand we could try out different tactics to axe them and ninjaloot while zeds were occupied getting the axe (love the range on it lol). We raided every deerstand from kamenka going up north passing Bor on the west side heading up to Drozino so we could get to Zeleno and the supermarket.

When we approached the outskirts of Zeleno it started to get a little bit messy, there were 3 Zombies lurking around the trail we wanted to move along to the southwest Barn of Zeleno, we aggroed them and started to axe when suddenly huge amounts of Zeds. A never ending stream of new Zombies, one of them infected me and broke a leg of one of the other Axeman, well shit. We hoped to find Antibiotics and more Morphin in the Market but wanted to check out the farm first.
We had set up a plan that three of us would position themselves to provide intel of the barns surroundings so that two people could loot it. As soon as me and my friend entered the barn we suddenly were five people in there "WTF mates!?", turned out everyone wanted to check out the barn as if its a fucking faction Spawn, loot whore effect i guess. Well nothing bad happened and nothing of value was found, meh lets finally go the shitty supermarket. Thats where all went to shit.

Coverage of the area was quite good, our spotters placed themselves so we always knew when and where zombies were shambling around it. Loot was decentish, lots of food infact so much food we couldnt pick up all of it. Didn't matter anyway as we had knifes and multiple matches. No backpack but two Lee Enfields, i promptly picked up one and told the dude with the makarov to get inside and grab the other one. The situation slowly spiraled out of control as we were aggroing zombies somehow and i derped my axe when i switched it for the rifle, we were now three people in the market but only one with an axe. Somehow one of us with guns inside panicked and started to shoot at zombies. Oh wow, things went really hilarious now. Unending stream of zombie aggro, as the axedude was cursing that we opened fire inside the building which was in fact extremely dumb, i really started to not like the situation and ordered everyone to evac the supermarket. bad ideas are followed by even worse ones, now we were in the open trying to slaughter them as comms completely broke down with everyone screaming and shooting around like mad men on top of that the server started to lag out and zombies started to blink around positions without dying to our shots. In the end, three of us were dead while the remaining two legged it to someplace safe.

It was kind of terrible because it was supposed to be an easy loot run but transformed into a huge frustrating shitstorm.
But this shit is excellent, yes its annoying to lose all your gear sometimes even a bit ragey but hilarious in the same time as it always reminds me of Zombie movie situations where everything goes to shits in a matter of a few bad decisions.


I think i need to learn to shoot other dudes now for a bit, as i can not imagine how it would have been if we would have been ambushed on the way.
Oh yeah, when i respawned i joined EU40 found an M24 and went to Cherno because i wanted to shoot an idiot or two from really far away. Ended up dying like a pig in the middle of it to another player.

With out guns probably safest to ninja every thing crawling around, over watchers should be more on the look out for snipers, zelnagorsk is great for shooting people you are in a big bowl at the shop with no cover.

Best way to not die with decent gear is hunt people once you are looking for where people are you are a step in the right direction of not getting caught also it helps to know the safe looting areas.

Btw our usual server has moved to EU41, some one else set up another server as EU40 and it was just easier to move.
