Welp, died tonight for the first time in a week (and even then, I'd kept all my gear from my previous life - which was 17 days).
Was looking for vehicle parts at a Factory, and server hopping to find the one that I needed. Spawned in to find a helicopter outside the factory, and an ATV burning down towards it. ATV pulled into the factory, guy jumped off which I promptly sniped. Saw a corpse at the helicopter, but had another nearby PL guy login. Halfway over towards the chopper, he gets lit the fuck up, and evacs to a safepoint. Meanwhile, I'm looking for the sniper, and I get picked off from fuck knows where.

fuck that shit, i've ran from balota airfield to green mountain to NWAF airfield, to NW of NWAF airfield, to NE airfield, to berezino, to klen, and to ALL of the fucking vehicule spawn on dregs server and I can't find ANY vehicule....

lol ghillie suit teleporting madness. should have read up first or listened to my mates that its bugged, lost all my shit due to being teleported into the ocean. swam to the nearest landmass, but it was just a huge ass meadow with some goats on it nothing else. felt like i was in the land of the langoliers.
whats usually the best and fastest way to get back to Assault rifles and a nice backpack? cherno apartment farming?
Because most the vehicles have either been found and hoarded, blown up and awaiting respawn (which they are supposed to do automatically) or you're simply unlucky.
izo survival master, can you give a noob a good advice for getting semi decent gear? like anything beyond axe and lee-enfield barn crap. i know that firestations are a neato place, or balota airfield hangars but i actually find them empty all the time.
or can someone tell me the ropes of respawing the loot of a building? like how long does it take after you remove all the items, how far you have to keep distance to the empty house etc. i serverhopped on some deerstands but that didnt work out as it spawned nothing and i really don't want to do it really as its gay as fuck.

Filter for deer stands and military spawns, basically. If you spawn in Elektro/Cherno, there are fire stations (These drop military weapons! I've found two DMR's there before, and a few M16's/AK's etc.), stores etc all in very close areas (north elektro, west cherno) where you can basically gear up in no time, assuming you don't get unlucky and run into players who're armed.
Alternatively, spawn at Balota (Airstrip) and raid the two hangers and the control tower there. You might find anything from a Remington shotgun to a silenced MP5 to an AKM to a M16 or anything, really. The small camp just south east of the air strip doesnt have much there but 4 deer stands, as nothing spawns in the tents. I once found a M4A3 CCO there.
Once you've at least got an ALICE and a primary weapon, and some supplies, gtfo north. Don't head to Stary Sobor. Its a shithole, even though there are tents there, its simply not worth the risk. A low chance of gear are at the deer stands, so its not a bad idea to go to those and check them they are easily soloable. Top tip really is take your time. If you hear gunshots, don't shit yourself, just find out where they are - that way you can either avoid or go and kill them.
The spawns being empty is either people spawning in or you being seriously unlucky. Usually find its about 20 mins for a respawn, not sure if emptying the building of all the items works any more to force a respawn but thats not a bad idea - so long as the area is clear. I've not had that problem, I died two days ago and ran into Balota airfield and instantly found a MP5SD (very lucky, really) in one of the hangers. Then I went into Cherno (Because lol silenced weapon = win in cities) and found a DMR in the firehouse along with an Alice pack in the store.
You'll be much safer away from the south coast, but because the south coast has everything you initially could need, I usually run around like a dickhead till I get my gear. If I die a few times then fine, so what? Because everything you can grab down there only takes half an hour or so!
Edit - Also don't forget to get med supplies from the NE Cherno hospital. not the one next to apartments. There is another with medical and military tents behind it. Don't go into the hospital/on top of it - the green tents behind have better cover and two tents are military and may spawn anything from a standard AK74 to top end military stuff (short of a M4SD etc)
Edit 2 - Selb has the idea below. You can get seriously good shit from deer stands if you're lucky, sometimes its arse though.
Regarding PVP. If you haven't been seen yet - don't fucking shit yourself and spray AKM rounds in their vague direction. Its likely you've been running, or crouch running. Even crouch walking makes you tired. The only movement that actually doesn't affect your aim is stand walking, and I rarely use that. Get your breath back. Countless times have I ruined a kill/died horribly because I rushed my shot. A Makarov to the head can kill easily, so a 1911 and Revolver has no problem. One good shot is all you need. *THEN* when you've blown your cover, spam the fuck out of them until your debug monitor says +1 kill. (When i say spam, I mean unless you know you've got them down and they can't see you. If they start to respond, then you've got an issue. Don't ruin a perfectly good headshot with followup shots for no reason!) The brief writeup I made yesterday, he had an AKM and never shot at me, despite the engagement being around a minute long at 100-150m, with no cover bar the shape of the rolling hill, and some grass for concealment.
The only reason I won was I could see him crawling in survivor gear and I had camo - crouched up with the SAW and let fly. Sometimes a spray or two can help, (like immediately after tailn died in Berezino - Sprayed in the general direction with the saw, only 20 rounds, but got the kill (and didn't notice for 5 minutes!! - CHECK YOUR KILLS!)

Edit for content: As I'm a super-paranoid faggot, I find deerstand-hopping from Kamenka up to Myshkino to be pretty useful, as well as quiet. You can also pop into the Londis at Zelenogorsk for beans/items/Daily Sport on your way past.

Apart from one expedition to Zeleno i never went up north really as we are a group of 3-5 noobs who are trying to learn the game, thats why we figured it'd be best to dick around cherno and coast to get gear and shoot some dudes until we all have enough gear to leave the coast. Apart from dying alot the coast is a nice area to learn the game i guess, but i really never found anything of value apart from an axe in the firestations or balota airfield. The AK47su i lost yesterday in the langolier dimension i found in the Medcamp around the airfield, but i'm playing since last thursday and this is the only Assault Rifle i ever found.

MOAR INFORMATIONS because you mentioned a group.
Know where your buddies are. Don't walk in a line of 5 of you within 10m of each other. I did a write up a few pages ago where 3 of us hit Stary Sobor and killed 5 guys - because we were spread out. I was 600-800m away, Dregek and Weedmasta were a couple hundred meters from each other. Obviously, running to the same location you'll likely be a lot closer than this (we normally are!) but when it comes to attacking somewhere, its good to know you have all the angles covered, rather than all going in one way and getting dicked by some lone bastard who gets the drop.
Surprise is everything. Cannot stress it enough. Knowing where people are before you engage is priceless. Even if they log off - you're not dead, and thats a good thing.
When you do roam north, check open fields (try not to run through them) for crashed Helo's. We've been lucky and found 3 in the last 2 days, where we got 2 SAW's, 2 M107's, FAL, Bizon SD etc. The hardware you get from these is awesome.
These are where some have been spotted off other people on the DayZ forums. Be warey when you find one, its not unheard of for someone to be sniping watching them. When the zombies spawn, have someone a little ways away use bino's and they should be able to see the loot on one side. Be aware though - some of the loot is hidden under the wreck. Check everywhere around it, and look at the ground into the wreck itself, if you get the gear marker, press G and hope you find something cool.
atm, we are being noobs and always have to rely on LOS to eachother so we dont lose ourselves all 3mins. "wait, where are you?" "on the left" "which left" "at the fuelstation" "wait what thats on the other side of the town" "ARGH%*ç&"
our group is pretty terrible at navigating but we're getting there.
having bought the retail version i have a nifty printoutmap of chernarus and im always cross checking to make sure that i always can tell where we are. got a little too cocky yesterday and i managed to navigate me and a friend from kamenka to prigorodky without seeing a house and i was seriously panicking because i was hungering to death and had a massive navigation failcascade. but a compass is most useful, its impossible to get lost with one.
also, i found a bicycle on my first day of playing, i was the happiest man lolling around the coast. it seemed like my little bike was autohealing? oh well, i'm still looking for another one, the speed you can travel around the coast with it was fantastic. my dream would be to have a 5 man bicycle gang fucking shit up with heaps of zeds in tow.
one more question about vehicles:
Boats, where do i find them? i want a boat. i know water is the wurst, but i'd still like to cruise around. maybe offer a ferry service along the coast.
