This is tough to acquire, but I run with an M4A1 CCO SD, 1911, NVGs, rangefinder and an AS50 in my backpack. M4 is for zombones and close in PvP, 1911 is a good backup zombone weapon if ammo is an issue or if noise isn't, AS50 is for sniping cunts as far as you can see them for the most part, and NVGs make nighttime too easy.

Does attacking the server count?

Aaaaaaaand my hatchet and .45 revolver are magically gone after trying to move a few things around my bag. <3 Alpha testing.
Thanks for the tips on gear choices. There's a decent amount of advice for new players for DayZ but I couldn't find anything helpful for that middle stage of "get better gear than that shitty gear you found before."
I've seen a bunch of people who seek out PvP do the split weapons thing. With a hatchet, matches, and a knife, you can pretty much avoid carrying around a bunch of food, which frees up room for that second primary. If one of your primaries isn't silenced, you need a good pistol, meaning 1911 or revolver for zombone work or the M9 SD if you're trying to be sneaky. The most common split I've seen is what I do, where you carry an assault rifle or machine gun for close to medium range and a sniper rifle (or CZ 550) for ranged work. I've also seen guys rock a shotty for real close and the assault rifle or machine gun for middle range stuff and completely ignore sniping.
If you're doing the survivor-style avoid other people thing, avoid the exotic weapons and stick with the vanilla M16/M4 varieties that use STANAG mags or one of the AK variants. You've looking for weapons that drop bunches of ammo. You can raid cities/towns for food and deer stands for equipment while avoiding the hotspots like the NWAF or Stary. Mostly, it just depends on how you want to play. There are tools out there for almost any play style, it's just a matter of using them.

Love my M4 SD, MK48 and PDW combo does rely on friends though to provide med - long range support.
The M4 SD (and the MP5SD is almost as good) used sparingly is frugal on ammo for zombie clearing, the MK48 is easy out to 200m and being 7.62 is a 1 hit down with a huge box of ammo (2 slots for 100 rounds). Leaving the PDW for OShit moments either hoard of zombies (Brrrrap they all fall down) or walking round the corner to face a player no time to change primary's from pack but a good burst will sort out any one at close range plus they use any 9mm mag (hmm wonder if M9SD mags work in it for zombie clearing).
I'm happy with 1911, since there is a lot of ammo to find. I love shotguns, Winchester, since ammo is plenty, rof i good, only downside is its fucking loud and u get aggro of entire town. i think i had like 150 shells for Winchester the other day, so ammo is really plenty + it holds 15 in mag....
never got Silenced weapons, but would imagine they rock since you don't get aggro, and can take zed's down easily
DMR fixed 500m scope is mad annoying. Need to get use to close range ballsack shots leading to headshots. At least I have 8 clips of 20. Ho ho.
DMR scope is 400m. Also I like how Rocket keeps adding new features without fixing all the broken ones and adding more broken features in the process.
Edit: Mission 'The Shooting Range'
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=14616 - Really really good for working out level ranges for the un-zeroable DMR and guns alike.
Both wrong.
Zeroed for 100m UNZOOMED.
Zeroed for 400m ZOOMED.
Download the shooting range mission. its awesome for this kind of stuff.
800m with the DMR is the third dot UNZOOMED.
Its actually really easy to use once you know ranges. Dreg's server (due to mass vote of other admins) is now running daylight till like 2:30am, so using the M24 is plausible now, too. Also, change your hold breath key to something other than your mouse. That way, when shooting unzoomed, you dont have to hold your breath and wind up zooming in anyway, as it will cock up your shot.

I'm pretty sure that's how the alpha is supposed to work:
1. Add a whole bunch of new stuff, breaking everything in the process. If it doesn't break, he didn't add enough (eg. 1.6, 1.7, 1.7.1)
2. Hotfixes and smaller patches until it more or less works (eg. 1.7.1.1, 1.7.1.2)
3. Let people play for a while and see if the design decisions work (eg. spawning unarmed)
and repeat
I guess it's a little blurred because some of the new features slipped from 1.7.1 to 1.7.1.1/2

Im not sure, when testing most games you test features that exist but might not be working as intended or w/e. In DayZ he completely breaks the game with every new patch adding something cool sounding and then forgetting about it. Temperature system is a good example of this as it doesn't do anything anymore and has no point existing but its there. The new spawn equipment doesn't even need testing, because any sane person would realize its stupid, the torch doesn't even work while moving.

Probably because it's an alpha and not beta
Lol. You're not wrong there, having to walk to keep the torch up is nnngh.
The temp thing did come into play when we used the PBX (dingy, lol) to go down the coast to pick one of us up. About 2/3rds the way there Reign and Randay went "Uh, I'm at 29 degrees."
They both came back with infections![]()
Your temp still goes down when it rains too, but popping into a building fixes it quick. Not sure why I still carry a hand warmer everywhere.
