Never said it was as expensive as the Vigilant, just expensive for the performance you're getting.
That said, in the currently pvp landscape, I don't think the Ashimuu is a good ship.

Sure, it may cap out a Vigilant in 35 seconds, but how many of those do you see?
In fact, outside of FW, how many people can honestly say that they come across comparatively high numbers of cap-using ships?
I know I don't. EVE is a Drake+Minmatar game. All that neuting is going to do is let you run away once they drop point.

To be fair the vigilant has atrocious cap to begin with.
I tried to be cool and all I got was a lousy warning about my sig being too big.

I am in FW though... so we see a lot of Cynabals, Vigi's, CNI's, SFI's, NOmens, blasters, lasers, etc etc. So being able to sit at a plex entrance dictating the size of ship that can come in and the range we want to figh is a huge advantage. So I can pick a fight with someones who's guns I cant turn off, and if the fight is going south gtfo cause he can't hold point. Saying nuet's don't mean anything is like saying a curse or a Bhaal isn't dangerous. It's going to turn off their props, hardeners, reps, all that fun stuff. So if I can out DPS them and out EHP them in this slug fest I am the winnner. If I cant warp off cause they cant point me. Implants ftw as well. Just my $.02 though.

Realistically, you could be killed by a Rupture (or two) w/ a Nos. It's a bad ship.
ie: The Minmatar FW is pretty much only Drakes/Thrashers/SFIs.

Outside of FW it's even worse, and is nowhere near the kind of ship people would want to be Soloing in.

I'm not saying it's likely, I'm just using it as an example of how weak that ship is.
Not to mention, being a rare-ish ship, people will go out of their way to kill it. That means odd fits etc...
I'd fly some silly dual-nos ruppy to kill an Ashimuu if I knew it'd engage me

Because soloing in (t2/faction) cruisers is a fucking terrible idea currently?
Get in a frig for ganking tackle and maximum mobility OR get in a battlecruiser to be able to take on bigger stuff and maybe kill something before you die. Its that simple.

Next you'll tell me armour battleships aren't good in the current meta...

While we wait for xmas, one can at least try to take advantage of less common ships/fits and let other people underestimate or make other mistakes.
Also, knowing what did work against pre-tier3 BC & ASB stuff helps, not everything's changed.

Tier3s are what's pretty much killed soloing in cruisers.
Fights that would have been manageable before are now extremely uncommon because it only takes 1 Tier3 to totally fuck you.

That and committing to scram range in a 200mil+ cruiser is dumb when :falcon: :cyno: and :blob: are so popular. BCs are so much better and cheaper

Disagree when BCs are also much slower, harder to catch targets with, more threatening, and much bigger (bomber food)

I've found that raw speed and agility only matters to a point. As long as you play it right you can extrude and elude gangs just as well in a BC. Also, 99% of bombers are hilariously underskilled and hardly a threat, especially with XLASBs replacing dual extender tanks for a smaller sig

I personally really like the theoretical idea behind Proms brawling cruisers.

Like the PromMos kinda owns on paper - it can perma-MWD, does 1700m/s, does 800ish DPS up close, has like 33k-ish eHP + MAR which does rep a little something (250ish dps with exile). Basically a giant Enyo.
I've even got one ok engagement in it, where i'd p much gank shit under pressure from sniper tier3s. http://kb.ds-alliance.com/battle/r72526/. Frustrating thing is - an Enyo or even a Daredevil could've got those.

In most situations you cant kill anything that isnt a target for a frig (frigates, tier3s, shitfit ratters) and just get dumpstered due to stated reasons.
On paper Cynabals and shit like shield Vigilants are a good target, in practice its ec-600s permajamming you while he waits for backup to show up.

Honestly if i really wanted to solo brawl these days, i'd take like an oldschool dualrep brutix and go look for scrubs in lesser populated lowsec pockets or something.

XLASB Brutix, Cyclone and Ferox are fuckin win, also for cruisers the XLASB Vaga and SFI are worth using. You use their speed to separate targets then brawl them down.

Also, web > dualprop on Vaga/SFI IMO

The cloak/probe proteus sacrifices some dps but makes hunting for kills oh so much easier (provided you aren't terrible at probing and know about putting your probes off grid until you've located a target, etc

(Mentioned because it is technically cruiser sized, and brawls, comparable to upgraded diemost)

83k ehp / 600+ dps / covert / bonused probes. It's slow as balls though, which is partially mitigated by cloaking and probing

Yeah I've done the cloaky proteus plenty, I'm maxing out on most sub-cap ships, and still have some bee in my bonnet about struggling through lowsec against piwates & bads. Away from sentries, low = null mechanic-wise unless I'm missing something (OK except bombs & bubbles, and disregarding the psychology of the inhabitants). But a cloaky t3 isn't the answer, a significant reason being the same as Prom's that it's not good value for money in a straight-up fit & fight. I just can't decide if I should downgrade to tech1 while I'm still rusty & experimenting with different ships, or double down on some quirky T2s/T3s (fucking reseed faction mods on the test server CCP). BCs & BSs certainly can occasionally give you a good fight in between being blobbed, shinier stuff tends to always be more interesting to fight in - just hurts the wallet a lot more. But then it's only isk and every hour spent roaming is another 100+mil I could have fitted/flown to be able to take more fights rather than have to move on.

Minor e.g.: Yesterday, if I'd dived my Deimos in literally 1 second later I'd have had the extra distance/time to finish off a tengu-linked PODLA drake before burning for freedom and/or taking out a thrasher too rather than being Curse'd. A T1 ship probably would not have been so able to seperate them and tank ranged dps, a T3 would maybe have 100mn AB'd away or just died to lack of HAC/100mn AB experience. Prom's stats & info help me know what's possible from cruisers without learning it all myself first-hand, and away from tier3 BCs and ASBs that's still current info. Ignore that I was in a Willl Adama-Deimos not a PromMos.
Edit: my point was, I was already quite aware what the fits could do, cope with neuts, resist profile etc thanks to such resources, and it came down to pilot error, as is best.

Orange, I'm not seeing how a web is better than the AB on a SFI. Both let you dictate range against a mirror tackle/prop setup, but one helps you mitigate incoming damage and gives more ability to GTFO, the other's just a regular web.

Dual prop doesn't really let you escape any better because you have to wait for AB cycle to end, where-as with MWD/web/scram I can hit my overheated MWD as soon as I'm unscrammed. AB also doesn't prevent targets boating back to gate/dock/friend range.

Web also helps tracking and missile damage.
