I don't know much about Notch's programming skills, but you have to admit he's pushing the envelope (or tries to) when it comes to game development. I'm not a programmer, but I've had more than my fair share of games over the years and I think 0x19c really might be something new. He's really seized the initiative on the best and cheapest way of making games - user generated content. Minecraft really is about giving the players the tools to make their own game, with all texture packs and building and whatnot. How do you expand that? Get players to write the game and the tools themselves. ¨

I think it's just brilliant how he turns the MMO-curse of botting into a prerequisite for success, maybe even a staple core gameplay. It will be very very interesting to see how all this pans out

Do we even know anything about what the gameplay of this will be, other than that it somehow involves programming in assembly? All we've seen so far are simple renders of a room with a terminal in it. I think it's a little premature to get excited.

Wow, my degree in Aerospace Engineering might actually turn out to be useful for something besides making gobs of money.

Well its a first person game but you are inside your ship. You interact with it via terminals.

So there's literally no gameplay other than writing/running programs to determine what's going on in space and program your ship to interact with things? Sounds like a rockin' good time.

    I think we don't know.

Well there are C compilers alrady i think. Someone has a hypervisor for multi tasking. It can only be a matter of time before something easy to code like a java compiler is created?

I would guess that you can directly interact with the ship, because gameplay in which the only method of making it do things is by typing asm into a terminal would be a little

However, I doubt you'd want to do anything more complex than the last few hundred meters of docking or close flying around an asteroid without running it through a navigation computer first.

The last few hundred meters, more specifically the last meter is where you crash, though...

If anyone builds a popular space station you may see docking computers used to orchestrate multiple ships docking at once.

Maybe reason he selected assembly is to allow easily make compilers to any language... most programming will be prolly done with python, C or other modern languages and compiled to game native language.

Its also well easy to emulate a CPU with only a dozen instructions..

I might even pay for it.
