So I finished Consider Phlebas and I really enjoyed it, can't wait to read the rest of the series. A bit of a grim ending but I was satisfied.
A mate has just given me a book to read which will put the Culture series on hold for a bit called:
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Apparently it is good so we'll see.
I finished book V of the Dark Tower series. It was okay, though I felt it went on a bit for what was the pay off. I'm only slightly dreading book VI, since I seem to enjoy the odd numbers and dislike the even, but hey! This is the last even numbered book coming up. That being said, it doesn't make me want to pick up any more King books.
For a change I read Live Free or Die (John Ringo) - inside of a day, that is. I couldn't put it down, really. I started book two (Citadel?) which has been pretty good so far. I'm not sure if I liked some of the political undercurrents expressed in the first book and being expressed now in the second but overall it's still an interesting story and I'm happy to follow it to the conclusion.
I've also almost finished reading Machevelli's The Prince whenever I'm waiting for a train/travelling/sitting in a waiting room, etc.
TMA the book titled 'Armor'.
Contract stuff to Seraphina Amaranth.
"You give me the awful impression - I hate to have to say - of someone who hasn't read any of the arguments against your position. Ever."
50 Shades of Grey ¬_¬
It's a work thing.

I just got Brian Cox & Jeff Forshaws "Why does E=MC2; And why should we care?" and "The Quantum Universe: Everything that can happen does happen". Reading Why does E=MC2 first, they're p. good at explaining hard concepts in easy terms so far, will see how the rest of the book goes.
I was a bit confused about the dream Horza had after they entered the sanctuary (the one with Xoralundra saying something along the lines of "you did well as Bora Horza Gobuchul", then fumbling the name of Horza's friend - Gierashell/Kierashell). A memory of brainwashing of some kind?
All expressed opinions match those of my employers, hail satan
Finished Stardust by Neil Gaiman in a day. Very very good.
:TpTlk:
Coming soon(tm).
<3 Entrox.
Yeah that was a bit odd. Thinking back it did seem a bit out of place and wasn't really explained at all. I can't remember anything about him being brain washed in the book so I don't know. I haven't read any of the other series so no idea if it gets explained down the line (as in balveda finding out more about him if she is even in the next one).
Avoided the thread when all I could read was stuff for literature master's exam. Now that is done...
Awesome series, got the third or so book done. I can spoiler that much, they are not connected by people, only by the setting. The Culture is the main theme of the series, people and place hardly make a re-appearance. Really awesome series, however in between I started Song of Ice and Fire books as I hadn't read them yet and well you know how captivating they are. Once they are done, I will return to The Culture.
For obvious military strategy, read Sun Tzu / Sunzi. The Discorsi are on my to read list. The Prince is nice especially when you consider that he probably wrote it while singing the Renaissance's version of trololololololololol. As a die hard republican banned from Florence by the Medici with no chance of parole he wrote a book about being the perfect absolute monarch. That was probably dismissed by his peers as being to fucking obvious. A good read nonetheless and possibly a good guide book for alliance leaders in EVE.![]()
nevar forget
Sun Tzu is a waste of time, it is the the most obvious stuff and only famous because he was the first one to write things down like "don't attack a heavily fortified city, better siege them until their food runs out" or "if your soldiers are loyal its better than if they dont like you"
Since I read it I know why it is an evergreen of self-improvement for the middle management: Because only complete idiots would find it new and interesting.
