not a total recall movie if its not going to have hookers with three tits. also that trailer is bland and generic as fuck tbh.

edit: also content. saw a pretty decent Norwegian thriller recently http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt1614989/

featurin Jaime Lannister as the villain

The thing with Tom Cruise is that he always seems to play the same part. He always is the action guy, the hero. Always playing strong valiant characters. This might be part due to the roles he gets offered but it doesn't allow him to prove, in my opinion, that he can act over a broad spectrum. And this makes me dislike him because it is more of a Movie x with Tom Cruise rather than Movie x with Tom Cruise staring as.
    Action guy? Hero?

Yeah. He's done some great dramas IMO like The Firm, Jerry McGuire, Rain Man and A Few Good Men to name a few.

The list tells me I've apparently see only a handful of movies with Tom Cruise in it. Although I did see Jerry Mcguire last year, but that isn't really up my alley. Still I can't say I've really been blown away by Cruise's performance. To me he is a good actor at best.

Also reminded me of that bad movie eyes wide shut, I love Stanley Kubrick's movies but I couldn't watch eyes wide shut in one sitting.

Unrelated note: Watching drive tonight, heard good things about it.

    The Raid: Redemption
Think it may have been mentioned in the thread somewhere, so seconding it if it has. If you love a good martial arts beatdown starring people with legitimate martial arts credentials, look no further.

Also I need to start watching good films again.
I went to the only showing of that in Auckland and I have to say that was a pretty uncomfortable movie, especially as I was tripping and the intro had already freaked me out.
The soundtrack by Tomas Bangalatere (dunno the correct spelling) was perfect.

    Return to Oz
    Legend
    Krull
    Willow
    The Princess Bride
    Lady Hawk
    The Dark Crystal

Just watched the first hour of Avatar on the telly, never seen it before but I knew who all the characters were before they even opened their mouths. That's her dad the chief who hates whitey, that's her mum the witch doctor, that's the betrothed angry guy.

Pocahontas in SPAAAAACE. I ain't staying up till midnight for this rubbish. I preferred the disney version, at least it had songs and that awesome dog.

Just watched Lockout (knowing in advance it would be a shitty movie and getting drunk beforehand)

I haven't seen such a funny "hero" in years. The guy literally gave 0 fucks about what was going on and he pulled it off beautifully.
I had a good laugh, would see again with drunk m8's.

    Edit: Lockout not lockdown.

Hello? Oh, hello! I'm sorry it's a very bad line. No, no no... but that's not possible, she was sealed in to the Seventh Obelisk after the prayer meeting. Well, no, I get that it's important... an Egyptian Goddess loose on the Orient Express. In Space. Give us a mo....

Avatar never was about the story. It was about breath taking visuals (with enough story to make the thing bearable).

Obviously, if you watch it on the telly, you won't get the 3D experience (which really made sense for that movie), and all that remains is a story that is maybe better than that of most other block buster type movies but still not enough to carry the movie.

Myself, I watched 2 movies this weekend. Spielberg's Tintin, which was great in my book, and Larry Crowne, which was pretty bland but ok.

Tintin has gotten rather mixed reviews from mainstream critics. But the motion capture they used does an excellent job of transporting a graphical novel feel to the screen, the cross fades were spectacular, the story was good to a guy who never read one of the novels, and I was thoroughly entertained.
